Surprise player making the 53

Lot of uptight, nervous people on D last night, at least that's how it looked to me. Destroyed by Dobbs. Someone is gonna overpay for his services...just hope it isn't us. Nobody really surprised me, except Clausell, who played worse against these guys than the Patriots starters. Worries me that he may be our starter at RT against the Cowboys. Our backup secondary is not NFL-worthy.

To be fair, there were third and fourth stringers peppered in all night long. I'm intrigued by Doss and Elder. Gaulden needs more time and Southward didn't play well at all.

Everyone is talking O-line, but we need a starting level safety back there.

Heineke completed 67% to Gilbert's 58. I think he was clearly better.

Don't base it on completion percentage. Last year Case Keenum completed 67.6% of his passes, Cam completed 59.1%. Heinicke offers more athleticism, but his arm is no where near as good as Gilbert. I like both players; they both look way better than DA last year, but we'd lose some of our deep passing game with Heinicke over Gilbert.

for every "surprise" making the roster there is an equal "surprise" cut.

And for those predicting a Torrey Smith cut you don't remember how Ron treats veteran players and you don't remember reports of TS tearing it up in practices.  You don't cut a guy like that on WR squad like we have.

Yeah, I think those two CBs have potential, but Gunter looked horrid, as did our safeties. I'm giving Gaulden a break for being out of position constantly because he's still learning.

I didn't hear much about Dorian Johnson. That's probably a good thing for Oline.... So yeah, he might make the cut.

For Oline I really have no idea since so much depends on health prognosis for week 1 and how many we keep. 10? 11?

Here's a somewhat surprising name for the 53. Zach Moore. DE. Hé may have jumped ahead of Hall and Bryan Cox Jr.  It wouldn't shock me.

I had to look up who he was!   All I've heard at guard was Mahon and how he could be our next Norwell.  Has Dorian had a chance to play with the starters?

You’re going to be sad if you truly think this is a possibility

It’s possible. 4 weeks ago and your answer would had been absolutely correct. I’m sure Hurney and Ron aren’t rigid in their thinking knowing there’s a huge gap to fill on the O-line. Wide-out is a luxury right now and the answer at O-line is not on our current roster.

Yes, they could add O-line help from the roster cuts, but we’re in need of a true starter. Make a trade happen by freeing up Torrey.

This is one instance I wouldn’t want to be wrong.
