Surprise player making the 53

- OG Dorian Johnson - 4th round pick last year by Cardinals has been excellent in all 4 preseason games.

Just making the cut: QB Garrett Gilbert, G Dorian Johnson, CB Corn Elder

The Panthers have been plagued by injuries to their offensive line already this season. Thankfully, they have players like Johnson to try and help fill the void. Johnson is currently the second-highest graded offensive lineman for the Panthers, and graded out as above average in overall grade, pass-blocking and run-blocking, as well. He has yet to allow a pressure in his 21 pass-block snaps and should provide vital depth to a Panthers team hoping to make a run this season.

Putting on my GM hat and rubbing my crystal ball, Damiere Byrd makes the roster by way of a Torrey Smith cut. We save $5M and apply the savings towards the OL via a trade.

The emergence of Samuel and Byrd’s ability to stretch the field, play special teams is Torrey’s undoing. I like to think that “veteran leadership” may not be enough to justify the cost. He was MIA in the preseason. We need to remember that Torrey was only relevant during the Eagles playoff run onwards to their Super Bowl win. They made the playoffs in spite of him.

We need players that will show-up during the regular season.

Samuel and Byrd in, Torrey out.

Corn would not be a surprise and deserves it.

Henikein or whoever was about on par with Gilbert...could maybe win a game against a sh*tty team with them.

Dorian was a 2nd rounder without his history.

Heineke completed 67% to Gilbert's 58. I think he was clearly better.

I want to see Frazier make the team, but the only way I can work it out is if we go with Barner at RB3 and his return ability puts Byrd on the outs. I don't like that scenario much because Byrd deserves a spot, but it is the only way I can rationalize it.

You’re going to be sad if you truly think this is a possibility

I didn't hear much about Dorian Johnson. That's probably a good thing for Oline.... So yeah, he might make the cut.

For Oline I really have no idea since so much depends on health prognosis for week 1 and how many we keep. 10? 11?

Here's a somewhat surprising name for the 53. Zach Moore. DE. Hé may have jumped ahead of Hall and Bryan Cox Jr.  It wouldn't shock me.

Lot of uptight, nervous people on D last night, at least that's how it looked to me. Destroyed by Dobbs. Someone is gonna overpay for his services...just hope it isn't us. Nobody really surprised me, except Clausell, who played worse against these guys than the Patriots starters. Worries me that he may be our starter at RT against the Cowboys. Our backup secondary is not NFL-worthy.

Last night or in preseason? Seems like he’s seen the majority of his time inside at DT through the first 3 games.

Not totally sure but I think he meant last night. I haven’t watched him enough to know for sure though TBH.

Edit: yeah he said “tonight”.
