One note, this is an extension so he’s signed for 6 total years. His next two years are around $22 million per season. With the signing bonus paid now it’s basically a 6 year $30 million per year deal. Wow, he really bent them over the barrel. They kind of had two more cheaper years left and that just got flushed down the toilet. Good. Love that they have far less money to spend.

If you can draft well then it doesn't matter as much.

Without knowing the full details, let's just take that $134M figure at face value. To put $134M over 4 years in perspective, that breaks down $91,780.82 per DAY every single day. The median household income of Green Bay, WI is $43,473. This dude makes more money by lunchtime every single day than the majority of households bring in over the course of a year in the city where he plays. Not gonna lie, that's just disgusting.

Just breaking down the numbers. The NFL isn't pure capitalism. If it was there would be no cap and small market teams like GB and Carolina wouldn't be able to consistently compete.

Actually when there was no cap Carolina and Green Bay were very competitive. Teams like Tampa Bay, Seattle, and NYC teams were not so much. Cap is just there to keep cheap owners competitive.

Cam is not on the level of Aaron frickin Rodgers. My god...

What did Aaron Rodgers do last year? Isn’t the adage of what have you done for me lately the most important thing? There’s no proof at all that Aaron will be what he was before he was down,..

How is it that Carolina could be competitive before they actually started playing games? The first year for the NFL salary cap was 1994.

huddle gonna huddle

the thing is Cam might be worth Rodgers contract come 2020/21. The lockout could also be in 2021 and Id hate for cam to be in franchise tag limbo with us if we let his contract expire. just something to think of down the line, for now all that matters is Dallas.

Compared with real life, the amount is obscene; but you have to view it in a sporting context.

QB for the Packers is the biggest job in Wisconsin. The Packers have a tradition of staying close to ex-players, and welcoming them back after they retire. Rodgers is the 3rd cog in arguably the greatest trio of QBs that any NFL franchise has had. The Packers may not win a SB with him, but they certainly won't get anywhere near without him.

Therefore, this is a wise move. Although they could have kept him without a big payday, it's good for Rodgers, the fans, the franchise etc that the Packers are looking after him. A happy, contented Rodgers gives Green Bay the best chance of being successful, and remaining a regular play-off threat.

Also, in the 25 years prior to the institution of the cap, Green Bay went to the playoffs three times. The cap is there for far more than just to keep cheap owners competitive. It is to keep the über rich owners from buying up all the good players.
