Saints trade 3rd round pick for Bridgewater - what would your reaction have been if Hurney did the same?

That is widely regarded as a bad trade even for people who liked Gettleman such as myself

Low risk it is not. They traded away a third rounder, that's a significant pick. Pretty sure the Saints got Kamara in the third round. Kamara vs. a guy who could walk away at the end of the season is not low risk, it's a risk but they had to do it because their cards are all in for this season

Let's put it this way. If Bridgewater is such a sure bet, why didn't the Saints just sign him for pennies this offseason?

It’s not a risk when they have a proven backup QB and can possibly get a comp pick in the same round worst case if he walks. They get a young probowl backup QB on a team that has enough talent to go deep in the playoffs. That’s more than we can say currently, we have talent to go deep as well but if cam goes down for 4 games vs Brees going down for 4 games they can still save the season and we more than likely will not. They have security and will most certainly not miss much on draft value with the comp pick and the 6th. Best case he is a future starter.....worst they have solid value and security on a team that can go all the way.

so you gave up a third rounder based solely on preseason performance?

That's surely never backfired

I don't know that it was about his actual performance as much as it was about seeing how he looked playing. The Jets took a gamble on him without having even seen him on the field since his injury. It worked out for them, but it just as easily could have been a flop.

Trash, utter trash.  If bridgewater's sees the field, then the saints have no chance of a super bowl, so the saints have up a 3rd round pick for a guy who increases their chances of a super bowl zero percent and oh yea, it's a 1 year contract so no chance of "development".  Ok ne of the worst trades I've ever seen, glad it's the saints.
