Saints trade 3rd round pick for Bridgewater - what would your reaction have been if Hurney did the same?

Teddy’s not dynamic but he’s efficient, a guy that won’t lose games for you, and has been a quality starter. Actually getting him for a 3rd rounder is probably better than what a team could draft in the 3rd round.

So I think it’s a reasonable pickup for a team that has a 39 year old QB that’s showing his age.

If Cam Newton was 39  and the Panthers Traded for a young Qb who could potentially start that wouldn't be a problem

You have to factor into that equation that the young QB is operating on a 1-year contract. If you believe he is the answer you could ostensibly pursue him the next season when he would likely be a free agent. Maybe the Saints have already talked about a future contract with him and his agent. Absent some unknown variable, a third-round pick is a high price to pay for a player you hope remains your backup QB for the only season in which he is under contract.

No i would not give up a 3rd rounder unless the team extended him first

You have to be a total homer not to be pissed about your team trading a 3rd round pick (especially when you're already short on draft picks) for a player who 1) could've been signed off the street as a free agent a couple of months ago and 2) isn't signed beyond this season.

Yup. Only homers approving this trade lol.

Ya know, if they'd signed him as a FA, not only would they still have a 3rd rounder, he would have been in camp learning the offense during the preseason, rather than coming in cold now. Could have signed him to a multiple year deal, promised him the starting job when Brees retired.

Way it is now, if they don't resign him during the season, some QB desperate team will offer him more money than the Saints can.

If they sign him to a new deal mid season, better for the team, still would have been better to make that decision when he was a FA and save the pick.

Dude hasn't even played yet and he's average already lol.

They also drafted Garret Grayson in the 3rd to be the apparent. If Teddy stays, it's a win. If he leaves for nothing, it was terrible. It's that simple.

LOL about spending two 1st round picks on a project DE?  What's funny about that if you are a fan of any team in the NFCS not named the Saints?

Like I said, not crippling either way, just seems a little off.

Laugh it off, but you know my reasoning was solid. Sometimes you just gotta laugh to keep from crying I guess.

You traded a 4 for a fugging punter. I'm supposed to be upset about a 3 for a QB?

Couple things. Nobody knows if they had contact with TB this offseason. They very well may have but went to the Jets with an opportunity to start.

The pick is what it is at this point. If TB stays and starts for this team for years, nobody is gonna care about the 3rd round pick they gave up to get him. If he leaves, the deal is a flop. I'm gonna go ahead and believe that they have a plan in place.

Davenport looked pretty fantastic in his action last week. I've said for a while that he's not as raw as plenty of people try to make it out to be.

As it stands right now, they have a very expensive Back up QB for a season. [5 mil salary, 3rd rounder] For a QB who wasn't great before the knee injury. Granted, better back up than they had, that isn't saying much. Still looks like an all-in move for this year. They think that, if Brees misses a game or two, that TB can keep them afloat until Brees returns.

If I was TB, wouldn't sign with the Saints next year, esp. if Brees has another good year. He can make  a ton more money and get the chance to start somewhere else.

As far as Davenport goes. still looks like way too much draft capital for the guy. And, lots of players look good in preseason, then fade out when the season starts.

So, basically, the sky is falling?

Sigh, where did I say that?  I think both trades are risky propositions. If TB isn't the QB of the future, either because he doesn't re-sign with the saints or because he isn't good enough-both of which are distinct possibilities- then you have even less ability to find the QB of the future.

With Davenport, 2 first rounders is a lot to give up, it just is, he's got to produce and produce quickly to make it worth the teams while. And DEs are notorious for taking a year or two to really pick up the pro game.

Both look like all-in moves that just might not work this year.

I think if any other team had pulled those two moves , you'd be saying exactly what I'm saying about them.
