Saints trade 3rd round pick for Bridgewater - what would your reaction have been if Hurney did the same?

Saints acquired QB Teddy Bridgewater and a 2019 sixth-round pick from the Jets in exchange for a 2019 third-round pick.

The Jets needed to find a taker for Bridgewater with Sam Darnold ready to take the reins for Gang Green and veteran Josh McCown serving as his mentor. Bridgewater also wants to play, so the team sends him to New Orleans where he'll enter a culture that could develop him even more with the possibility of taking over under center when 39-year-old Drew Brees eventually retires. Preseason standout Taysom Hill will be the Saints' third QB, while Tom Savage is likely a goner.

So now the Saints have no 1st round pick and no 3rd round pick and the backup they just traded for is on a 1 year deal and will be a free agent next year?  Am I alone in thinking WTF??? If Hurney had done this people on here would be out with their pitch forks ready to burn the stadium down.  They better hope Brees never retires.  This is Matt Millen dumb.

They're off to an excellent start for life after Brees. Im also willing to bet Sean Payton leaves when Brees retires

I start to wonder how they're feeling about Brees. That knocks out their 1st and 3rd for next year so they're going all in for this season.

I was thinking the same thing.  Brees may feel like he needs to hang it up soon, or maybe the Saints feel like it might be time to let him go after a year, as the Colts did with Manning.

Does anyone here think the trade has something to do with the fact the saints play us twice a year? With teddy’s Insight of norvs offense?

of course he is a quality backup, but he also provides cometetive intel.

I'm honestly not sure how much intel he could really provide. Norv likes to push the ball down the field and Teddy doesn't have much of an arm. I'm not sure if he really had that much exposure to Norv's full offense.

And then there's the fact that the NFL is inbred as hell. Virtually every team in the league has in their locker room and/or coaching staff some type of insight on just about every other team in the league. There's only so many high level players, coaches, executives, etc. to go around. They've all ran in the same circles.

I'd be livid. $6M cap hit and a 3rd rounder for a guy on a 1 year deal we could've just signed in free agency. And while I would like Teddy as a solid backup for the right price, he couldn't lead us to a Super Bowl so if Cam went down there's no difference between Teddy and Heineken...

Lol he’s a lot better than Heineken let’s be realistic

I don’t disagree but do you truly believe we’d have any chance to win the SB if Cam got hurt and Teddy was the backup? I don’t so it’s same result as Heineken, though with a worse draft pick...

I don't agree with that sentiment in that if it's not a SB it's the same thing. Were the Panthers the same as the Browns last year? Same result. No SB.

There is no reason for the Panthers to give up a 3rd round pick for a QB. You have a franchise guy in his 20s. The Saints? Theres been talk of them drafting a QB in round 1 for the last 2 or 3 years, and now we're supposed to be upset that they spent a 3rd on a guy that we know can play in the league.
