A 3rd rounder for a 1 year rental is stupid.

Let's assume they extend him  :

They could've signed him during FA for same no draft capital

Drew may have just told them recently that this was his last year.  Can't predict the future

If Bridgewater is starting for the Saints in 2019 and Brees is retired, I'll be absolutely thrilled. Not that Bridgewater is a bad QB, but he's in that Andy Dalton range of being the definition of not bad/not good. I'd much rather deal with that going forward if that's their plan.

Came here to say this.  If that's their future and that future is close at hand, sign me up.  I'd rather face TB over DB any day of the week.

Jets coming out smart for once.  Teddy would be a nice backup and a guy who could win a few games...but that's all he is.  He never flashed greatness, was average at best, and his knee exploded.  Giving up a 3rd round pick, when you have Brees, and dude could bolt this offseason?  Yeah that's pretty damn stupid.

They aren't losing anything they acquired a quality player. Put the crack pipe down.

Quality human being yes, quality player is up in the air. He may never be the same after the knee injury.

Yeah, no. no crack pipe involved in my thinking.

If they wanted him, could have signed him during the offseason, saved the draft pick. Could have signed him to a 3 year deal, told him he's the starter after Drew leaves.

Only thing they're guaranteed is a better back up QB than they had this year. If they think that's worth 6 mil and a 3rd rounder, that's fine. Don't think it's unreasonable to disagree with that.

I don't think he has learned from his previous injuries.   He is not Cam Newton and is more like RGIII.  If he continues to revert to running like he did in College he won't last long.

He is a pretty accurate passer and if he can learn to stay in the pocket he might last but, IMO I don't think he'll ever be able to change.

I think NO has a very capable backup and replacement for Brees but only time will tell if Payton can teach him to be more like Brees and less like Cam.

I'm not sure this makes sense for either the Saints or the Jets.

The Jets seem to have committed to Darnold starting in 2018, and very few young QBs benfit by being thrown in at the deep end. Most of the successful ones have sat and watched for a couple of years before getting the starting job. The history of the NFL is littered with rookie QBs having their confidence ruined and their future career ruined.

This only makes sense for the Saints if they need a back up for the next couple of seasons. If they think Bridgewater is the future (once Brees retires) then I'll have a pint of whatever their Front Office is drinking, cos it's obviously good stuff.
