The Saints traded for Bridgewater

If Bridgewater is starting for the Saints in 2019 and Brees is retired, I'll be absolutely thrilled. Not that Bridgewater is a bad QB, but he's in that Andy Dalton range of being the definition of not bad/not good. I'd much rather deal with that going forward if that's their plan.

There are four levels of QBs in the NFL.

  • The Franchise: guys you know are the guy (Cam, Brees, Rodgers, Brady, Russ, etc.)
  • The PlaceHolder: guys who you know aren't good enough to be the guy, but you don't have anything better: (Bortles, and looking like Mariota headed in this direction)
  • The Kid: guys in their rookie or second year (Trubisky, Josh Allen)
  • Purgatory: guys who have shown you just enough to think that maybe they could be the guy, but you just don't know (Dalton, Winston).

Teams know what to do with the Franchise, the Placeholder and the Kid. It's teams in Purgatory who don't know what to do. I would say Bridgewater, based on what I'm seen, is currently in the Purgatory group.

(This isn't original, but I can't for the life of me remember where I heard it.)

Smart move. He will be one of the better back-ups in the league, and Brees ain't getting any younger...

I wouldve given up a 3rd for him.

Solid backup, he wouldve already known Norvs system here too

Itll be interesting what going ti happen.  They are cash strapped with Ingram and Fleener free agents next year too.

Im sure Teddy will not want to sign real cheap, more as a higher end backup if he is being told in he is the future plan once Bree's hangs it up

Fleener isn't on team.  They cut him.

But agree.  Teddy will want starter money or guaranteed playing time.

This is a great move. Been needing an heir to Brees for a while. Bridgewater is as good of a replacement as you can ask for.

Sitting behind Brees will be great for him, hopefully he can work on his body and put  some muscle weight w/ no pressure to start.

He wasn't very good in Norvs system. Bridgewater doesn't have a very strong arm and a majority of his passes are underneath. Definitely a better fit in Peytons system.

no way in hell i give a 3rd
