Will DJ Moore be active week one?

Who's active for Game 1:

QB: 2

RB: 2

FB: 1

TE: 2

OL: 8

WR: 5

DE: 5

DT: 4

LB: 6

CB: 4

S: 4

K/P/LS: 3

There are ways to keep 5 and even 6 WRs active on game day, though I seriously doubt we keep 6. We could give Byrd a jersey (WR6) and take away LB6, DE5, or OL8, though with our OL problems, I'd hesitate to activate fewer than 8. Alternatively, we could give that jersey to Barner, who also can return kicks. Or we could go with 4 WR and keep an extra DE and RB or OL and DE or any other combination, depending on ST needs. Personally, I think Byrd sits and we keep 5 WR. I think we let Moore return punts and we de-emphasize KO returns because that's more than likely gonna be taking a knee or watching it sail over your head.

Turner should have a set number of plays designed to get the ball in Moore’s hands.

You don’t keep a playmaker like him sidelined. You also don’t tip your hand to defenses during preseason games.

I would be shocked if he’s inactive.

This.

He will be active and contributing week 1. Without a doubt.

Hate to have to tell ya but your projection here adds up to 46.

What is interesting is that the good OLine play, particularly on the left side, has really reduced the requirement for having more 2 TE sets to help in pass protection. I like Olsen and Thomas quite a bit, but would really be interested in seeing how the offense functions in four-wide sets.

I’m pretty sure that’s what he meant. 53 is the roster but for this discussion we are talking about the active 46 game day players. 7 of the 53 are inactive every week.

Nah, it's not him, it's me. I had forgotten they changed the rules to allow 46 instead of the 45 that it had been for a long, long time before that :)

But hey, I can still add...

Reminder not all WRs are like 2014’s class and instant Elites. DJ Moore is more a raw guy with potential than a sure day one starting star.

Reason DJ Moore is low in productivity is the coaching staff forcing him into an outside role when his technique doesn’t warrant that yet.

He’d be fantastic from the slot and in space, but he’s not an outside guy yet. His press technique is lazy; his release is poor and that allows DBs to jam him early. Only way he wins is by beating the DB at the top of his route (he’s real good at that) but otherwise he’s a tough window to throw in and will have a DB draped on him until he fixes technique.

So we should've drafted Ridley, correct?

If our first round pick is not active, Rivera should be fired the next day.

That is a dumb statement.  All it would mean is that he is being outplayed right now be several talented veterans.

But that being said, I expect him active....just not sure how many touches he gets.

I'm pretty sure he will be, especially since we open at home. Ron knows the fans will want to see our first round pick!

I'm guessing it will be at the expense of Byrd or Smith. Much will depend on ST and kick return.  If Barner can handle returns Byrd likely to be inactive.

Dammit KBfan, while your logic and thoughtfulness are refreshing and genuinely fun to read, they have no place on this board! Please try to overreact more and, at least occasionally, say something that makes no sense at all...just to fit in better with the rest of us.

No need to go digging in the gamebooks for that. This site is great for snap counts, just google Panthers snap counts and they come right up. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/T/ThomSh01/fantasy/2015

So anyway as you can see he played in 14 games his rookie year. Some he saw as few as 9 snaps.

Good info, in game 1 he got 25% of the D snaps and a third of the ST snaps, despite being considered by many a luxury pick at LB, AND he got a late start in off season due to the semester rules at Washington. I'm pretty confident that DJ will be active.

He's the second most expensive WR on our entire roster, of course he'll be active.

Right now I'd say Wright and Byrd are in the most danger of either being cut or being regularly inactive. Especially if we keep Barner as a KR.

Wright has played lights out when his numbers been called. I've made it a point to keep an eye on him, and even when the ball doesn't go to him, he's generally open, or helping someone else get open. He and Van Roten are by far my 2 happiest surprises of the preseason.

LoL, I'll try!

(Actually, I'm sure I have done that quite a bit, especially in my first few years here. Heated defense of Bersin comes to mind!)

This is actually a great question and glad we’re finally in a place where this is actually something to consider. I wonder if we are as loaded at WR as we think we are or are we blinded bc we’re fans.

If he is active does he play? He hasn’t shown much in the preseason except for a few catches and some nice moves against 3rd and 4th stringers. Right now we have a log jam at receiver and I think we end up keeping 6 with only 4 or 5 being active on game day. Who is the odd man out? If Dj does play who’s snaps is he taking, Torrey’s? I really wish we had this problem last season.

Would you rather throw a screen pass to him, Devin Funchess, or Smith? He will play and there will be scripted plays to get him the ball.
