OK, who are your surprise veteran cuts now?

Preference:  Matt Kalil (use the $$ saved to sign a project/depth

Probable:  Seymour might be the biggest "surprise" and maybe Jacobs or Manhertz.

About Hall--not so fast--DEs take time to develop and we have Peppers and Addison who are over 31---Haynes is a pass rusher and Cox Jr and Horton are run defenders for the most part.

Even though Hall has done little, he needs more time and since Pep came back, we can give it to him.  He needs to play some.

I wouldn't call it a surprise though. He was IR'd for a hang nail last year because he clearly wasn't NFL ready and he's been outplayed all of camp and preseason by former UDFAs.

I suppose not as surprising as another 3rd round pick that got cut  in his “first year”...before the first game. Remember Atiyyah Ellison? He barely made through the preseason.

He's been behind Cox Jr. all pre-season, both primarily being matched up vs the right tackle.

Also, there is no money to be saved by cutting Kalil.

Hall has made some plays I don't see him getting cut. Cox likely to PS if eligible, Obada definitely to PS. There will be roster spots at DE in the not so far off future for these guys or others. For now, it's Mario, Pep, Horton, Haynes, Hall

Man, Matt Kalil is a quandary.

We have only a limited sample of Taylor Moton as yet, but that sample came under the same control conditions as what we've seen from Kalil. And Moton unquestionably looked better.

Unless Moton suddenly looks awful (and he's guaranteed to have some tough moments as a young transitioning into arguably the hardest job on the line) it'd be pretty hard to justify sitting him down in favor of Kalil.

Kalil has said he's a left tackle, not a right one. So if he's healthy do you try and convince him otherwise? If not, are you willing to weather the firestorm that comes from putting him back at on the left spot?

And that contract? Cap wise it's a very  "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.

Oy...

My surprise cut is Amini. Surprise as in, I wouldn't think Ron would have the balls to cut one of his favorite players.

It would be the most logical one. Amini is trash and is hurt. Nobody would pick him up anyway so we could just bring him back when we wanted. Even if he did, we could EASILY find somebody to replace him instead of wasting a roster spot on him.

That contract is a mess. The bad thing is that we could have gotten out of it after this year, but they changed it last offseason so now we have two years more of his pathetic play to deal with
