Ron asked Norv before and Norv declined.  Ron seems to like Norv’s design so he got Norv disciples. It just baffles me that he is this much better of a coach than Chud & Shula to see this difference.  I was watching Giants game and surprise they have the same running issues we have had in the past.  Meanwhile, we are plowing all over d-lines with four hurt lineman.

Anyways, Rivera did want better.  He just couldn’t get Norv until now.  Yes, we could’ve won more but we have been competitive.

The G-Men are using Shurmur’s playbook, not Shula’s, so I’m not so sure Shula can be blamed for any problems they’re having up there.

And, if I’m not mistaken, Shurmur is calling plays as well.

You're not mistaken, and Shurmur runs a West Coast system.

I haven't been following the Giants so I don't know much about what's going on up there.

So Shula is a glorified QB coach, then? What does he do all day?

It really all starts at the top, as Richardson kept mediocre coaches here his whole time.   In fact, don't be surprised if this team flounders that Tepper pulls the plug on Rivera as well.      I don't feel like this "never back to back winning seasons" thing is going to float with Tepper.

On the play that Cam landed on his head and ran, he had two receivers crossing underneath and should have just dumped it off. He needs to get over this running poo unless absolutely necessary and make sure he knows he has insurance policies under Norv.

He also had CMC running about 10 yards in the open right in front of him...

Shurmur calls plays while Shula game plans and coaches QB’s.  From the sound of things when he was hired it was supposed to be this mesh of great minds.  Seeing Stewart bang into lineman and collapse over and over looked a lot like Shula.  They did start putting the ball in the air though promptly after running game struggled.

we had to blow 2 timeouts down at the goalline on our first drive and that cost us maybe getting a td before the half.

Meh, if this was the regular season those drives probably produce TDs.

Rivera has always been a good coach. He's now transitioning into a great coach and I'm assuming this new front office will now be a help and not a hindrance like the last FO.

Remember the Greg Hardy PR nightmare, there were TD and Rivera publically wanting to give him another shot, these are men that KNOW that man, not the media or the many prophets that frequent this fine site.

Like it or not Greg and CJ were beasting at the moment and TD and coach knew that nobody cares about GH's foolishness before Ray Rice and some of could predict such a thing as an "ex" mad about that huge payday coming and her not getting squat, probably happens to alot of NFL, NBA, lottery winner folk. They understood that and we're willing to put their own reputations on the line to vouch for Greg Hardy, nobody listened, they just wanted blood and JR gave it to them. One players coach, a good coach, high character guy and a Walter Payton award winner and NOBODY listened to them.

That every other year thing had more to do with the Jr FO. Not coach or the players. Add #89 and #76 to that SuperBowl team that's what coach wanted. No coach wants to let their stars go for nothing. He was told to stand down or not told at all. Looking at what Tepper has already done with the uniform getting that ok'd and giving guys input shows he listens. Maybe having more $ than Jerry helps a lot though, Teppers middle finger is bigger.

First off Norv has looked like a monumental improvement over Shula. Play designs, routes one just guys in position to make plays. But to be far this wide receiver core might be the best in Carolina history. The speed and veteran savvy of these guys aren’t the same monolithic, slow towering monsters Shula had been operating with. My point here is separation could be due to more speed and better players.

You do understand that Greg Hardy made a cancer of himself on his next team, right?

And that during that same period he got arrested for felony cocaine possession (which he pleaded out on a deal... good lawyers are awesome)?

THAT is the guy that Rivera and TD wanted to put their reputations on the line for.

Make further weak-ass excuses for Greg Hardy below...

sweet jesus on a stick, i can't believe what i'm watching. we've seen strands of it for the past couple of weeks in spite of poor line play, but the difference turner has made has never been more clear than in this game.

play calls coming in with loads of time on the clock. cam's footwork looks good. guys getting schemed open. divergent route trees.

everything that was wrong with shula's offense appears to have reversed with the installation of turner's. i've never felt so good after a series of stalled drives.

shula was dog doo but he's been sprayed off the soles of our new balances and we look fresh as fug.

It's. Preseason.
