Week 1 - Travis Frederick diagnosed with rare disease

"Several sources" told ESPN's Todd Archer that Cowboys C Travis Frederick's battle with Guillan-Barre Syndrome could cost him "multiple weeks of the season."

The Cowboys are also presently without RG Zack Martin due to a knee injury, and rookie LG Connor Williams has struggled through two preseason games. Frederick has been to four straight Pro Bowls and is Dallas' second-best offensive lineman behind LT Tyron Smith, so his loss will certainly be felt. Seventh-year journeyman Joe Looney -- who has made 13 career starts -- appears likely to be the Cowboys' first-team center in Week 1.

Mark Schlereth said he was diagnosed with this same disease while in the NFL. He sat out a year but came back and went to the Pro Bowl and contributed to two Super Bowl runs.

It's a mixed bag. Frederick could be back in a few weeks or he could be gone longer. The doctors said they caught it early.

He will miss regular season action. The question is how much.

He is more likely to miss the entire season than be back for Week One. The best case would be a few games or first part of the season. But it could easily last much longer.

Let’s hope the best for him — that symptoms were mild and the quick diagnosis and being treated aggressively early gives him the best chance at full recovery.

Was diagnosed with sarcoidosis few weeks ago.  Not as bad as this but still an auto immune disease.  I'll have days where I dont feel like myself but cant imagine this.  Wish him well forsure.

I was diagnosed 6 years ago. My involvement with sarcoidosis was limited to just my lungs and surrounding lymph nodes. Had never even heard of it until that point, but it sure beat having lymphoma which is what my primary care doctor initially thought it was.

Anyway, I had a "mild" case and and have not had any reoccurrence. I still take Symbicort daily as a maintenance inhaler since I never fully regained 100% lung function.

I wish you the best. As with most autoimmune diseases, each person's experience and prognosis can be different. The pulmonologists with Novant were great.

Sounds like Short and Poe may feast in week 1.

This

Zack Martin is shooting to be back week 1, but if he does get back in time for that, doubt he'll be 100% plus will be a tad rusty.

Anyways, i really hate to hear this about Frederick.  I hate all things cowboys but hate to see injuries even more
