My honest input?

Skip out on the piano lessons, at least at first, and get some good training in musical theory and basic songwriting fundamentals.

If you're wanting to learn piano just for the ability to write songs, etc. then you can teach yourself as easy as you teach yourself anything. Get a good music production software suite, a midi keyboard, and go to town.

Not only will you be learning basic piano fundamentals, but you can learn accompaniment techniques, etc.

I taught myself piano and wish I’d gotten lessons. Too easy to start with bad habits or sketchy technique which will hamstring you later.

Yep. I had to "unlearn" guitar and learn to play.

As my brother said "You can play the beginning of a million songs. Some people want to hear the whole song".
