Wow, Kevin Dodd must have a bad rep going if we are choosing someone like this over a player with, IMO, more potential at the same position....and also someone that we looked at during his draft year.

Dodd has been awful in the pros.

Trevon Brown is going to be one of the better WR's in the next NFL draft.  No matter how badly we may suck, we keep turning out NFL wide receivers.  He is a legit NFL deep threat WR with size and wins the 50/50 balls every time.

6'2" 215lbs - Had 1,069 receiving yards and 7 TD's last season.  He is the only guy that teams bracket or double, and he still produces.

From last year, a few highlight games:

@ West Virginia (103 yards, 1 TD)

Virginia Tech (107 yards, 1 TD)

@ Houston (141 yards, 2 TD)

Cincinnati (270 yards, 2 TD)

Don’t forget ECU legend Larry Shannon.

Honestly, I thought Hardy was going to be a better player in the NfL than what he has turned out to be. There is basically no reason now to even send a pro scout to Greenville. Montgomery is killing that program.

ECU shouldn’t have cleaned house with Ruffin McNeil. He had that program trending upward for a “mid major” so to speak. Not to mention they got their biggest win in like three decades when the waxed UNC a couple years ago. I heard there was some shady stuff going on with some of the assistant coaches and the AD asked Ruff to fire them and he refused, so they fired everyone. That program is going nowhere fast, which is sad because they have some passionate fans at least during FB season.

My mom’s side of the family is good friends with Ruffin McNeil, as he’s from Lumberton.

I don’t have much to add to this thread, but I hope the kid can show something to maybe stick in the league for a few years. My alma mater also plays ECU this year and I’ll be in Greenville for it. I hope we beat the stew out of them.

He was a walk-on that ended up earning a scholarship through sheer determination and hard work.  One of the few bright spots on the roster the past couple seasons, especially on defense.

He's a good college DE, by any measure.  Big, quick, strong, and has a high football IQ.  Doesn't do stupid things.

I don't expect him to make the team... but I would never count Kiante out, honestly.

Dwayne Harris has made a Pro Bowl, and is still in the league.

Zay Jones plays in Buffalo... played his entire rookie year with a torn labrum, which he had surgery for.

Justin Hardy got unlucky going to Atlanta... he's had a LOT of really good (2 hall of fame) WR's in front of him since he got there.  Roddy is gone now, but it's a tough lineup to crack.

I wouldn't say ECU is a WR factory, but they have turned out some good talent recently and agree that Trevon Brown could go first couple rounds of the draft if he has a good year and combine.  I have a buddy that is an NFL scout and he agreed that Jones was the real deal and hopefully he can get healthy and workout whatever happened this past summer which was very odd.

I know nothing about this Kiante guy and he's likely just a camp body.

He's a pretty big dude. (#96)

Anyway - props to Kiante for going from being a walk-on at ECU to extending his football career (if only for a few days/weeks) and getting to wear an NFL jersey.  Most would do anything for that opportunity, and Kiante has earned it.
