Panthers already have 5 locks at wide receiver, and Byrd ain't one of them.

For his potential return ability I'd think Byrd stays.  Much like Ginn was in SF that one year where all he did was returns.  If Byrd can show up there like we all hope he can, he'd get put more into the WR rotation as season went on.

Historically we generally keep 6 receivers and theres no reason not to this year.

Looking back, 13 and 15 were years we only rolled with 5 WR's. It looks like we went heavy in the backfield and at tight end those years.

In 15 we kept 4 RB's, 2 FB's and 4 tight ends. I suspect because Norwood was our 5th receiver there was no point in giving a roster spot to someone worse than him.

In 13 we went heavy on TE's again carrying 4. However Armanti Edwards was our 5th receiver. So again any receiver that couldn't beat him out didn't deserve a roster spot.

Theres not enough depth at any other offensive position or even defensive for that matter to justify not giving Byrd a spot on the final 53 this year.

That's a really good looking group.

There is really no reason to keep bird as a sixth receiver, because we will not have 6 active receivers on game day. Let him go play somewhere else.

I like Byrd but if he is not playing why keep him. I hate to say it but its best that he go to another team. I will cheer for him as long as he does not do what KB did.

I don't see why we can't keep 6. Byrd offers more than just a typical end of the bench WR. He is a dynamic KR and potentially PR too. As a WR he can not only stretch the field vertically, but showed prowess in clutch catches when given the opportunity last year. I'm thinking of his touchdown catch against I believe GB last year?

Why is Torrey Smith considered such a lock? He is not fast anymore. He was well below the league average last year for average max speed for wide receivers. One could argue not only is he not fast, he is now slow. Was Torrey ever really known for his hands?

Ill say this over and over again. Torrey Smith is the ONLY proven deep threat on our entire roster. We were sorely missing a deep threat last year and absolutely no one on our roster established themselves as one during the entirety of the 2017 season.

Meanwhile, Torrey Smith still caught multiple long passes and home run balls (including as recently as the 2018 playoffs).

Why are so many people acting like T.Smith is a scrub?

Byrd has worked hard and has been showing promise for at least 2yrs and even then they still wouldn't give him opportunities. If he gets cut he will be a patriot! Some say he hasn't done anything. He really hasn'tbeen given much opportunity either. Yes he got hurt, that can happen to anybody. Who knows maybe he will not get hurt anymore and we can have an allpro wr unit! You can never have too much firepower on offense.

Okay, I'll play along for a minute.

Who won't get their Jerseys on game day?

I think that is still premature for week 1 and who knows as the season unfolds. I would love to think no one gets hurt or drops off as the season unfolds  but that isn't realistic. So who starts week 1 and who is inactive will not be the same group as who may be playing in week 12.

Thanks for playing....

I'm only asking.

I like Byrd. His potential is exciting.

Fact is he's 6th here this season.

I'm not opposed to the team keeping 6 receivers, but you know as well as I do, only 4 will be active on game day.

So your alright with Byrd being inactive and on the shelf?

Would be good insurance, but there honestly, I'd be surprised if the kept 6.

I think we keep six because neither Samuel or Byrd have shown they can stay healthy so while their talent justifies keeping them, they haven't shown to be durable. Given that we will be doing a whole lot of passing this year, I don't necessarily think only 4 will be active. Wouldn't be surprised to see five receivers active most weeks. Again injuries will dictate much of that.

The only shot Byrd has of making this team is if the Panthers keep 6 which is far from guaranteed considering CMC lines up in the slot and even on the outside quite a bit.

Funchess

Smith

Wright

Samuel

Moore

Those are the locks.

I’m pretty sure he has a shot simply because he is a decent kick returner.  His receiving abilities are far from his “only shot.”

With Samuel injury prone, we have to keep 6.  Personally, I don't get the lovefest for Smith. He's had a quiet camp for the most part with the exception of a few good catches.  Did he even play against Buffalo? If he did, he didn't do squat. A lot of money could be saved by not keeping him. Just my two cents.
