Panthers already have 5 locks at wide receiver, and Byrd ain't one of them.

I don’t think you have your finger on the pulse of this team as much as you’d like everyone to believe. You didn’t have Jermaine Carter Jr. making the team in your latest mock draft while he’s out making plays in camp, making plays in preseason, and getting singled out by Luke as one of the off-season standouts. You also posted shortly before the C.J. Anderson signing that we will all be disappointed if we’re hoping for him.

Bottom line is you’re a photographer. You practically have the same level of access to the team as the rest of us do. You can argue you have friends on the inside with higher access, but your sentiments about the team and who is on the roster bubble do not appear to be shared by the other reporters...so evidently that’s your own take from your own observations. Speaking of which...it’s hard to get a clear and accurate perspective on the team when you’re watching training camp through a camera lens.

That was harsh, but valid points made!

The only shot Byrd has of making this team is if the Panthers keep 6 which is far from guaranteed considering CMC lines up in the slot and even on the outside quite a bit.

Funchess

Smith

Wright

Samuel

Moore

Those are the locks.

I think you are correct, but one caveat is that cutting Smith saves 5 million in cap space, so if they were to decide to make a move for another position that required some additional cap space, Smith might be a casualty.  Unlikely at this point, but not impossible.

Wright, CMC, and Samuel all seem like guys that could get reps in the slot which is where I see Byrd mostly getting snaps.  I would almost think the chance of us keeping 6 receivers would be higher if we had an extra bigger receiver which we don't.

With that being said though last year got pretty rough with all of the injuries to our receivers so maybe the coaches decide to keep 6.  Especially with carrying one less QB I could see the numbers being easier to work out.

Even if we do carry 6 receivers the 6th one will most likely not be active on games days.

Sometimes the easiest way to determine the roster is to look at the game day 46 first.  Everyone likes to say that the last few spots are often made by special team guys but that really isn't true.

Your special team players have to be active on game day.  The last 7 guys are either backups that you can survive without for one game (like a 9th or 10th lineman) or players with potential that you don't want other teams to get.

Code for “I don’t like him because he is anthem protest supporter and he doesn’t stick to sports”

ahh so now the real reason for trying to will Smith onto the roster despite his invisible training camp comes out

I've been curious why a player who has done so little as compared to other contenders is getting so much support, and now the truth slides out

Pretty easy to decipher the “cut Torrey Smiff he trash” comments on here and why some folks don’t like him. Why on earth would a team need veteran leadership from an established WR with a couple super bowl rings?

Yeah I like how u turn my Torrey is trash into I don't like him because of his protests. Just worry about ur own comments. His veteran leadership is not worth 5 mil when he has bricks for hands.

You guys are on drugs about Torrey,.. Ginn would have dropped this,..

Torrey was in the wrong place with Wentz, Foles is much more of a deep thrower which is why Torrey shined in the playoffs. The dude costs 5 million not guaranteed and after the receiver hyper inflated market this year who knows how much he would get out there?

There are guys out there that got paid double their value even from a few years back, everyone has whined and been in total shock over it.

If Torrey catches 800 yards and 6-9 touchdowns for us for 5 million, I would say Hurney made THE trade over a disgruntled felon,...

Awful, awful takes from the poster.

To my knowledge, Smith wasn’t a  protester. He has, however, been outspoken of the embarrassing behavior and unethical leadership we currently have in office, so that alone is more than enough to make some folks micro-analyze his Football abilities an excuse to cry about cutting him. If he were cut, he would be picked up by a team within 24 hours.

teams need strong, veteran leadership in the locker room. Smith has two super bowl rings, won one last year for a team that had possibly the worst thing happen to them right before the playoffs,  and has proven he can contribute. Realistically, Smith will be what...the fourth or fifth option on offense? And that may be generous considering we have unknowns in Moore and Samuel. Having Torrey as the fifth option and as valuable depth is incredible for any team.
