Greg Van Roten looked good at LG... such as...

Yeah, he did well. My problem with this is, if Kalil starts the season at C, are we really gonna leave Larsen on the bench just because we're afraid of him getting hurt? I mean, Van Roten did pretty good, but I still think Larsen is the better lineman. I think we should put the best 5 linemen out there.

YES, leave Larsen on the bench, with Kalil's injury history the last couple years risking our best backup center seems silly when there are others, read Van Roten, who can adequately play LG.  Sirles has no shot to be starter but primary backup at both guard spots.  Unless Mahon wows in preseason he'll be second backup.

If what you claim is true, it makes no sense that Van Roten gets the guard spot and Larsen rotates in. Their roles should be reversed. After all, in your scenario, Larsen has no less chance of injury than if their roles were reversed, so there's no benefit to putting your second best guard option on the field to start the game. The only way this does make sense is if the coaches actually think Van Roten is better at the guard position than Larsen.

Short answer is...If Larsen is starting at LG, and Matt goes down. You have to shift two positions. Whereas, if Larsen is on the bench, you only shift one position. Sometimes those guys that could start at multiple positions, are more important not starting at all.

Best case? Van Rotten, or Mahon win the LG job outright. Leaving Larsen to be healthy next year. It may seem to suck this year. But it may just pay dividends for the future.

Meh, his man was still able to make the tackle so I'd give him a 5/10.   Got to put the defender on his ass and out of the play.

The dude was at the 42 initially and made the tackle at the 49.  I’d say that was a successful block.
