Thoughts on Trading Funchess?

I'd rather just convert him to TE and ask him to bulk up a bit. It was his college position, and we could use another TE weapon to go with Ian Thomas. IMO, Thomas and Funchess at TE is an elite duo of the future.

he lacks any kind of toughness to be a TE.. hell he can't even block.

I would like to see what he's capable of if RR is canned and a new coach is brought in. He's still young enough that he could possibly fix playing to his size and his hands, but I think we need a better coach/coaching staff to help him along with that.

Too bad I’m not GM... I was toning my dislike for Donechess in my post not to anger the crazies here.

I didn't want to trade him at the beginning of the season (or even by the trade deadline). I thought he showed some really positive signs of development last season and he got off to a decent start this year. I wanted to hang onto him through the season, but I didn't want him re-signed. The way he was tracking, I thought he was going to get $10-12M per season and I never thought he was worth that. However, down the stretch this season... damn, I wish we had traded him. But, hindsight is always 20/20. Let him walk after this season and wish him the best. His agent better be ready to do some real story spinning and try to play up that back injury to help explain why he fell off a cliff and could barely even get on the field down the stretch this season. I think he might be looking at a 1-2 year prove it deal now.

People talking about "TE was his college position" must not watch much college football. There are very few college TEs playing much in-line football these days. Virtually all college TEs are basically coming into the draft as jumbo slot WRs and then you have to teach them how to actually play TE.
