Steve Smith didn't get to play much in 2001. The whole team fell apart, none of the coaches cared, none of the players cared, and after that redskins game the entire team fuging quit. On top of that, the coaching staff didn't like/want him, so they just stuck him on returns.

It was very clear to see when smith got the ball he was the best player on the field.

A whole lot of people didn't watch panthers football in 2001.

My family in NC literally taped games for me and mailed them to me in Cali so I’d see them weeks after they were live. Then I got in trouble in February of ‘02 and didn’t see poo until September of ‘03. I remember ther being a lot of close games in ‘01 though and then we’d poo the bed.

Surprised no one has made the joke CMC being the best rookie WR.

doesnt he have the record for most receptions on the team by a rookie in team history?

KB had 73 receptions his rookie year and I dont remember any other WR that snagged as many balls in their first year. CMC was technically a RB but caught 80 balls . If he was on the field for the vast majority of time instead of stewart wolfing so many of  his backfield snaps, CMC wouldve obliterated Reggie Bush's rookie RB record for catches in a season.

The following week, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, McCaffrey brought his catch total to 75, breaking the Panthers rookie record of 74 set by Kelvin Benjamin.[54
