WQAM (miami) is reporting we are trying to trade Steve Smith to the Dolphins

I have yet to see Smith soundly beat his man before the ball has been thrown this year. (key part in italics)

Game sealing int during the Atlanta game... direct result of smith dogging it.

Several deep back shoulder throws have been made to him... he's gone after 0 by my count and at least one was intercepted as a result.

Smith has yet to break a tackle that I've seen.

Arizona playoff game... two INTs directly his fault for alligator arming

Similar effort problems in the last 3 games of last season.

Do I still need to go on?

This week watch smith instead of staring at the QB. You'll notice he isn't getting off the line very well and jogging through a lot of routes.

Of course as I say this, he's going to explode for a big game and completely prove me wrong. (I'm hoping for it)

eh, sounds like a lot of the same Peppers hate logic being applied. Steve Smith has made a career bailing Delhomme out.....Jake has simply reached a point of such crappy play that Smith can't makeup for it. imo. Kinda like when there is no pass rush outside of Peppers it made him look bad....now that Beason, Davis and other DL are being effective creating a little pressure....Pep is able to do more and looks better overall. Regardless of how badass we want to make any single player....it is a team sport and they will be effective by what occurs around them. Shoot, look at Beason this year....the scheme doesn't fit him as well nor did missing a DT early this year....can you really say he has looked like the best LB on the team this season?

barely relevant facts are still facts, I guess.

Funny that you mention moss in oakland, because smith is doing the exact same thing here... dogging it.

I'm sure smith has the ability to be dominant still, I merely question his want to.

Okay, since you want to talk facts, why don't you give us the facts that show Smith's lack of success is not directly related to poor quarterback play. Furthermore, let's see the facts that show, without a doubt, that he's washed up.

The only reason I wouldn't care if we traded Steve Smith is because it would show how truly terrible Jake Delhomme is. Since it is not possible for Jake Delhomme to be ANY WORSE than he currently is then I would say it's a smart option to keep Steve Smith.

I find it funny that there are two groups one blaming Jake and exonerating Smith while the other blames Smith while exonerating Jake.

The reality is that a receiver's performance and the quarterback's performance are integrally connected. When one or the other struggles it affects the other. When Jake doesn't get Smith the ball, Smitty pouts and dogs it. When Smitty isn't open for whatever reason, Jake loses confidence and doesn't throw it Smith's way. When Smith finally gets open and Jake overthrows him or doesn't see him, Smitty gets frustrated or breaks routes which then causes Jake to throw a pick which starts the negative cycle all over again.

Neither of them are playing well and neither are blameless in this. And either of them can help the other by making the plays they made last year. They can either lift each other up or both go down the tubes together.

And yes I believe that Jake can recover. Confidence is a very powerful force in the NFL which can impact a player's performance positively or negatively. Many players have periods of doubt and resultant poor play. Look at Carr for example. While he was with us he was awful, but from all reports he has regained some of the confidence which he lacked while in Houston and here.

You are the voice of reason. :cheers2:

Oh trust me I blame jake too. It's just smith is viewed as such a golden goose around here that somebody needs to shed some light on what's really going on.

Absolutely. Obviously anyone saying that Smith is 100% of the problem is just ignorant. Delhomme deserves a ton of hatin', but Smith has done next to nothing to help our situation on offense.
