In an interview with Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt, reading between the lines, Luke Kuechly basically said that Dontari Poe is an upgrade over Star Lotulelei without expressly saying it.

"This offseason we lost Star and everyone was kind of like, We’re going to miss him. . . And then you plug a guy like Dontari in and you don’t miss a beat. Dontari’s big, he’s physical, he takes up space. But he’s also very athletic. He’s nimble on his feet, he moves really well. For as big as he is, it’s pretty interesting."

When Poe was signed, I believe that basically all of the Huddle believed that Poe was an upgrade. On paper, Poe is an upgrade, but I would think that Luke's knowledge of the game and his eyes are speaking  to what he has seen/is seeing.

I know that Luke didn't come out and say that Poe is better than Star, but he said more than what everyone else has said (and probably what everyone is thinking).

Poe is looking good, and we should feel very grateful to have him...at a pretty good bargain, at that.

I was very negative about the Poe acquisition.

I wasn't impressed with how he finished at KC and because I'm in Atlanta and get all their games I always heard other DL's names over Poe's when he was with them.

So, again, I was negative and unimpressed with the signing.

Its looking like about a 98% certainty I was dead wrong, which is awesome.

Basically, you're saying what everyone already knew, while trying to make it seem like no one knew, then saying, well everyone knew?

I loved Star. Still doo

but he didnt live up to my draft night hype. I thought we lanted the next Haloti Gnata all pro destroying poo up the middle

ended up being a very solid run stopper. Still very valuable and did a great job for us

There were times when Star was the most dominate lineman on the field.

Those times didn't happen near often enough though.

Star is probably the most excited I've ever been for a Panthers draft pick. Simply because he was THE guy I wanted and I didn't think we had a shot in hell of landing him.

With that said, he admittedly was a bit of a disappoinment after his rookie season. He was a very good space eater, but that was essentially all he did. He wasn't an impact player and you're hoping to get impact from a guy taken in the 1st. Still a great 1-2 draft though. We got the impact DT in the 2nd.
