Kuechly praises Poe, essentially gives nod over Star

Not sure he’s saying that Poe is an upgrade here or that we can simply move along without regressing. Either way Luke has always been a classy, well spoken guy.

Poe might be an upgrade, but in no way did Luke say that or even imply that. The most you can get from that is Poe isn’t a downgrade since they won’t “miss a beat” with him instead of Star.

No controversy here.

Yeah, it's a pretty big stretch to suggest Luke is implying anything here.

"Didn't miss a beat" doesn't mean "upgrade".

Gettleman’s first round picks not impressive

Star was still a very very good player for us and a huge part of our defense all those years. Remember our run D before Star was drafted? Then every year with him we were extremely stout against the run.

Not saying that the difference wasn't there, but look what we had before Star...

Poe might also be an upgrade in that he might want to play for Carolina more than Star did. Star never seemed to like playing for the Panthers although I guess we'll never really know.

Personally I think the criticisms of Star when he was coming out of college were probably accurate.  He's just not passionate about football in general.

Maybe someday I'll get around to changing my avatar....

I had already pointed that out in my post and it supports the claim that Star was very important for our D...

The red flag for me, which I didn't fully realize at the time, was his first presser. I'm like, "Damn, is this dude sad we called his name or what?"

Star may have been important to our defense because he was here, but he was still a disappointment. Perhaps some of y'all didn't, but I had plenty of buyer's remorse as time went on.  We thought we were getting one thing, and we got another.

Sure he was never an all-pro as we all hoped he would be but that doesn’t mean he was a bad pick or a bust. He was a consistently well above average player.

Was he "well" above average? He may have been consistently slightly above average...

You mean the Star/KK combo, right?

I just dont think star loves football that much. He would be here now if we offered him that absurd contract that buffalo did.

I always thought Star went through the motions for the money.

I never saw a great love of the game from him

just my observation from watching him every Sunday

And if Shaq bottoms out this year, then definitely G-Man stunk up the draft. KB gone, Star gone, Butler BLAH, but then again we have McCaffrey.
