Amini has a torn meniscus

Prior to this injury the Panthers' braintrust must have analyzed available OL talent, likely to be cut OL, and potential trades. Now is the time to act on that analysis.

The only guard that I know of who could definitely be playing if he wanted is Incognito. He is not playing by choice.....sort of. Of course, he is also in the process of redefining the phrases "loose cannon" and " having a loose screw".

Our depth at the LG position right now includes two undrafted rookie free agents. That is unecceptable for a playoff calibre team.

One of the best and deepest OG drafts in recent history and we don't pick a single one because we had... Amini.

Fugging hell.

Telling you guys our pile of poop O-line is the main reason 7-9 is incoming.

Sadly I think this is possible.  The organization took a lackadaisical approach in the offseason in not properly addressing question marks surrounding the offensive line.  One Kalil is retiring at the end of the season and the other one is mediocre at best.  Throw in the loss of a stud like Norwell and you have an offensive line that is unproven with weak spots and a general lack of depth.  Not even into the first preseason game of the season and the line is already down two starters.  Hey, signing a multitude of receivers is fine, but the protection of Cam should have been a higher priority than it was.  I am afraid that we will soon see the consequences of not shoring up that offensive line.

If we don't draft a WR, spend some early round picks to try and help out the secondary, and then finally get a much needed #2 TE, then people would be complaining that we didn't address those needs.  Bottom line is the salary cap really keeps the league balanced over time.  You can't just pay everybody.  Combine that with the inevitability of injuries occurring and every team is going to have weak spots/positions.  It's the nature of the business.

With all that being said.....I have no clue why RR continues to think that Amini is a viable starter option?  It would at least make a little sense if he was either above average OR durable.....but he's neither.  Wish him a speedy recovery b/c we do need the depth, but we may have just lucked out getting him out of the starting LG role.  Who knows if RR would have ever given Norwell a legit shot if it weren't due to injuries.

I still say the huge possible saving grace in this mess is that it's early.

Perhaps even more important than total O line talent is getting 5 guys to gel and then their staying healthy. We were doomed in 2016 with multiple injuries in our line forcing many players to move around, play out of position and constantly adapt to a new group on the line.

That contrasts with 2015 when we were remarkably healthy on the line. I think our starting 5 played in at least 13 or 14 reg season games... But I don't remember exactly.

If we can get 5 players to gel and then stay healthy, we still have a good shot.

I'm thankful that we have Norv to help us scheme around our weakness. And I hope too that Tepper can help. He wants to win. Maybe he can help Ron and Marty be more aggressive in addressing this weakness than they might otherwise be.
