Cam Newton went 11-5 last year and had a terrific playoff game capped off by a perfect Hail Mary pass that should have been caught for the W

Really.

Thats what you determined would be good input in this thread?

Yea because you only drop gems in threads.

The only thing I agreed with is that he had an amazing playoff game performance. to suggest a hail mary pass should be caught is crazy, the fact that hail mary is a prayer to begin with. There were other plays that should or could have happened that didnt that are more realistic.

I agree that the Saints game, Cam did awesome. But I'm not a Cam apologist....

The game before that, in Atlanta to end the season and a game that could've secured a bye in the playoffs Cam was god awful. Like beyond terrible. And the team was playing great. I was there.

Again, I'm sure I get poo for this but Cam needs to be more accurate and more consistent. Sometimes when the Panther do poorly it's on Cam. The saints game - it wasn't. This problem is there whether you want to see it or not. This isn't 'hater' or 'me and cam vs the world'. Simply an observation from a fan who existed pre Cam.

I was there too and I'm not sure how you can put that ATL performance on Cam.  We ran a vanilla preseason offense with the playoffs locked up and obviously didn't want to unleash him/anyone to get hurt.  No WR with more than 2 catches that day.  When you look at Olsen just coming back from injury and playing with Clay, Shepard and Bersin running preseason 'don't get hurt or show anything we're playing for marbles next week' strategy from Shula and Co...nah.  Not on Cam.  He always brings the A game against ATL and we handcuffed him to preserve a playoff run.  Which would have looked brilliant if some of the things from the original post worked out and we were headed to Minn for a chance to go to NFC Championship.  Instead, it ended up costing us a chance to host a home game or go to LA, and here we are.  Still.  I'd trade the opening playoff loss for no more Shula any day, myself.

Oh look the age “pass”... *yawn*

Ridley is also a lot more polished than Funchess. So now what piss poor excuse you got?

Funchess has also been really quiet going against a terrible secondary this camp. Funchess isn’t a “gamer” so you’d like to see him at least put on a show at camp but he’s not doing that.

i don't care if Ridley is better than Funchess right now. i don't care if Funchess has a similar season to last season. i don't care anymore that Funchess didn't catch that ball 6 months ago, or what week it was. As long as Funchess plays well for us and is a part of this offense that helps us win games, i don't care  how he does it, and right now there's no reason to think he can't.

Remember #dothejulio? Doesn't matter how good are bad you are, mistakes happen. Keep being edgy and contrarian and acting like your opinion is above all others, though. i for one choose to be excited about that team instead of stuck on one play.

i'm far from saying Cam is perfect but our iirc our WRs were. Far from perfect themselves that game.

If not for the refs we would have stolen that game. If we had Byrd I think we could have beat them by a TD.

Im still scratching my head how they called that an interception. Lord knows, had it been 3rd down and it actually benefit us, they would have overturned that crap.

I have two opinions about Cam that I can’t decide which one is true but I have narrowed it down to 2.

1. Cam is the most unlucky QB there is. Having Shula as an OC, bad offensive line and bad WR. He has talent but the players around him are bringing him down.

2. Cam is overrated. He isn’t consistent. He is great athletically but is average when it comes to throwing the ball. He has flashes of greatness but then makes horrible decisions. His completion % is horrible. He has wide open receivers that he never checks down to.

honestly I don’t know what to believe. Cam has won the MVP but that year we actually had a good offensive line, probowl TE, healthy RB and a defense that gave Cam lots of short yard situations. Lots of seasons when he struggled he was injured, had a horrible offensive line and or had no WR. So it’s tough for me to say which of the 2 is true. However if Shula has a great season with Old Eli at QB I think we should question how good Cam is. If Cam can do good with a different OC maybe it was Shula who was the problem. We have changed our scheme around and went from tall slower WR to fast better route running WR. We have CMC for short yards to help improve Cams completion %. The only issue I see is the offensive line.

1. Our Pro Bowl TE was out most of the season

2. We had Stewart and a rookie in CMC who is not fit to run the ball in that scheme.

3. Shula's play calls with receivers that can't run routes. Cam made Funchess better.

4. Eli had no receivers or running game or line last year and their defense was absolute garbage. OBJ was out most of the season. Don't think if they rebound you can say it was because of Shula.

I smell hater.

i thought the Panthers went 11-5 last year. weird to say one guy had that record when there are 45 guys who dress out every week.

Just saying, but he literally did carry the Panthers run game to the playoffs. Without that we were 6-10 or worse again.

We definitely had zero run game until we really started to utilize his running skills a few weeks in, there is no denying that. Blocking and/or play calling was terrible, no matter who was running the ball.

While our defense wasnt that great, they gave up 20 ppg. Had that number been like 24, what would our record had been with everything else being the same since we are now doing hypotheticals? In that simple regards, the Panthers went 11-5.

Without a qb they would be winless. Without Brees the Saints would be 0-3 vs us last season and don't make the playoffs

The slightest question of Cam (who is a phenomenal QB) is always the third rail on The Huddle. Cam could throw 5 touchdowns and run for 115 yards and there'd be people questioning his capabilities. Likewise, he could throw seven interceptions and fumble twice and if you questioned it, some would label you a hater.

Just sit back and enjoy the games. He's our QB for as long as he wants to play the game here and we're mighty lucky to have him and not be on the QB carousel from Hell that many teams spend a decade or more on. He's going to miss a long pass now and then. He's going to break a big game-saving play now and then.

And you will never be bored when he's on the field.
