If nothing else he explodes off the  ball. His speed may create more opportunities for the inside guys as the OT will have to get further outside.

yep. there's plenty of guys in this league who got by early with speed and great defensive help. Haynes already has more than functional strength, and he's shown the desire to learn. our DTs all desrve attention and respect, so if he can win his one on ones even occasionally, he's gonna be big for us.

The constant conundrum of camp. Is *insert player or unit* looking really good or is it just that *insert player or unit* is really bad?

Keep in mind you are looking at one drill repetition and don't know what the drill is and one guy is a camp body.

I actually liked the Haynes pick. He may be undersized but there are plenty of undersized DE that have contributed in the NFL. Former Colts DE Robert Mathis was about the same size. Vic Beasley, Dante Fowler and Yannick Ngakoue were all undersized and have done well.

he is 235. Mathis was a little lighter when drafted. Honestly Haynes just needs to put about 15 pounds on and that shouldn’t be that hard.

Haynes put up good numbers consistently in the SEC. I could see him being the future at DE.

You could  argue that he will loose speed gaining weight but I don’t see it being a huge difference with only 10-15 pounds.

Great news is he is already listed  behind Mario Addison on the depth chart. I know a lot can happen in the pre season but I believe for him to already be listed that high as a rookie says something.

He was 235 at the combine

He post draft press conference.  He said he was shooting to put on 10 pounds by camp.

Havnt seen weight and stuff listed.  He may have dropped to 235 by the end of practoce due to heat

Haynes was originally a UNC commit but he was unable to be cleared academically to enroll in the school. Big surprise he ended up at a $EC institution.

UNC had several commits drafted that ended up playing ball elsewhere.

Ronnie Harrison - originally committed to UNC. Shot up the rankings and earned a late offer from Alabama. Decommitted from Carolina and flipped to Bama

Haynes originally committed to UNC but was denied admission due to academic issues.

Mike Hughes actually played at Carolina for a year before being suspended and decided to leave the university, possibly because he was going to be kicked out of the school for beating up a couple drunk frat boys.

Could have been a nice little crop of players to have on the defensive side of the ball which Larry always seems to neglect.

Yeah it’s hard to know exactly what his weight is right now. Still I don’t think it will be an issue. Plenty of other players have played well at DE who were less than or equal to Haynes weight. He was consistent in the SEC which isn’t easy. He has shown strength in practice. I believe he has a good chance at being a starter in the future.

who knew training camp would be too advanced for most people to have conversations about
