Guess that story out of dfw was some chick wanting cash

lets hope he is finally gonna be a contributor...after all, he was only a first round pick

I guess since he’s not a franchise DE, did NOT call 911, an unrelated and irrelevant elevator video didn’t come out, a kook with self serving agendas wasn’t on the bench, and a big p*ssy cat owner aren’t in charge anymore, it doesn’t matter if the story out of dfw was some chick wanting cash or not.

I think Butler has definitely shown flashes. I agree though, a first rounder is usually something more than depth. However, I'd rather have a great player behind an All-star than a bust.

Often, a first round pick is depth for the first year or two, especially along the dline and those chosen towards the end of the first round.  In fact, if you look at the last four defensive linemen taken in the 2017 draft, between them, they had a combined 7 starts total.  It usually takes Defensive linemen a little longer to develop than some other positions, especially when the spend most of the first year on the injury list.

Hunter Henry is the only player that you can make an argument for as a TE, but he's been just okay (with some injury concerns) so far.

Outside of the top 5, the 2016 draft has been eh from what we've seen outside of some scouted players in later rounds, as far as pro bowl caliber players go. We can do a lot worse than a really solid rotational defensive tackle, on a team where our d-line is important.

Henry has been more than "just okay," and that's why people in the know speak so highly of him. You shouldn't just look at a serious injury and say, "Well, he's a bust---not worth it." Moreover, you shouldn't judge someone based solely on stats without context. Sometimes players are asked to do a particular job, while waiting their turn so to speak. By every account that I read pre-injury, Henry got pretty much glowing reports.

I hear what y'all are saying about Butler, but he was still a luxury pick.

Guys just in the next few picks or so were Sterling Shepard, Noah Spence, Michael Thomas, Von Bell, Derek Henry.

I agree, and I do think its a little disconcerting that we felt we had to sign another relatively high priced DT, but I also think that doesn't mean Butler is a bust, at least not at this point.  He does need to show something this year though.

I knew some dumbass would ask so like Germain Ifedi who is actually playing right now. Also Henry broke records his rookie year not his ankle like Butler. Hell even Ogbah has done better and he plays for the Browns.

Germain Ifedi? The right tackle who has been worse than the RT we took the year previous? Just because a guy is playing doesn't mean he's good. So far, he's been more of a disappointment than Butler.

Ogbah was a want of mine, probably the player I wanted the most by the time we were on the clock, and honestly yeah, based on his production, I'd say he'd be a fine replacement for Butler, but I still say Butler is a fine pick. If Butler can play to his pick (note, I'm sayin if, not that he will), having  a great interior pass rush rotation will only help this team. Coaches seem to be excited, so I'm hoping he does.

I agree with you on Hunter Henry, but again that's a case of woulda-coulda. Again we can do much worse than a rotational DT.

No one thought Sterling Shepard, Michael Thomas, or Von Bell (the last of which to my knowledge has been just okay? Not saying that wouldn't have been an improvement over what we were rocking last year at S but...) both Thomas and Shepard were guys we were interested with our second pick but got picked before I pick.

Derrick Henry looks really solid, a lot better than I was expecting, especially last year in Tennessee's abysmal scheme, but I definitely won't say he's been probowl calibur so far.

And I really, really wanted Noah Spence but every panther fan knew that he wasn't gonna be a Panther.

Derrick Henry should have been the pick in 2016, Derek Barnett should have been the pick in 2017.

I'm just saying. That second round was strong, especially the top half.
