Yeah not sure what people don’t get about this... Samuel was a top 40 pick a year ago and has tons of promise coming off an injury riddled rookie year. As much of a lock as anyone not named Cam or Luke...

Though I do think we will and should definitely keep Byrd as well.

It's ridiculous that anyone thinks it would be Samuel. They get wrapped up in Byrds preseason against other teams 2/3s and that touchdown against green bay.

Guys...

Byrd was valuable at one time because of his speed..  something we didnt have at the time.

We are loaded with speed on top of talent. Hes not the only speed guy in the room now. I like Byrd but hes expendable. Hes not the only guy who can get behind the defense.

Between CMC, Samuel, Moore, we have speedy playmakers that can take poo to the house.

Byrd is our depth speed guy in case of injuries.

He eithet barely makes the team or gets cut..  if he gets cut, we will not miss him. Hes a good story and i like him, he will catch on elsehwere, but we have some very talented and fast WRs in this offense

No practice squad mkes it tougher on Byrd...sure don’t want to lose him but he’s got to stay healthy

sammuel not going anywhere but he’s got to be on the field as well

if we could get anything for smith I’d pull the trigger

Would rather have Smith than either of them. It's been mentioned by multiple people on the staff his leadership is important.

It really comes down to Byrd and Wright. We are not cutting Moore, Smith, Funchess, and Samuel. This year I see CAP being our "surprise" cut simply because we need to keep 6 WRs because TE is weak. We can roll into the season with CMC and Anderson as backs with Armah as a flex TE/RB . Not to mention you can use Samuel and Moore as flex backs. CAP doesn't play ST and doesn't really catch the ball well so I just don't see him sticking with a team who will have to use the pass to set up the run. He will probably get a chance with another team that is set up differently and do well.

If the camp reports on Wright are accurate, it's not a contest between him and Byrd. Plus, you have to consider the fact that Wright has experience in Norv's offense. Honestly, I think Byrd's chances hang purely on whether we carry 5 WRs or 6. If we carry 6, he has a great chance of being on the roster. If we only carry 5, he's likely gone.

I really don't put much faith in camp play. Wright and Byrd are doing well but a system guy over a ST guy is 50/50. I think preseason will be fun if our crap line can hold up.

But especially when it's a new system that system guy can be pretty important. With the addition of Moore and Smith as well as getting Samuel back, Byrd's speed isn't as important to us now as it was last year.
