FanFest - Panthers logo at midfield

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a “bare bones” version of the logo somehow.  (White or blue outline, no black) Grounds crews don’t like to use a ton of paint in the preseason, so they can avoid killing the grass earlier than they have to. Then we could expect the full black and blue logo for the regular season.

I get that but that wasn't my point. Teams that have lots of cap space because they havent spent it on homegrown talent are the big FA spenders. That usually hasnt been us. We very rarely have gone into any off-season with lots of cap space that we need to spend to get within the cap floor. Its not that we have been particularly adverse to FA acquisitions its just been that we havent been in a position to bring in any big bames because of spending money else where. The post I was replying to was implying that we were cheap, which isn't the case. We had just spent money in other ways.

I know one thing that beat us up a lot in the past was spending big money on the wrong people or at the wrong time. Charles Godfrey was one example, and the Jake Delhomme loyalty reward contract was just awful.

Frequent restructuring and kicking the can down the road put us in some really bad spots too. sometimes we were in a position to offer new contracts because we were still paying for old contracts.

I know one of the things that's specifically been said about Tepper's approach is that he doesn't want to set the market. Thus, it's unlikely that you'll hear Panthers players being mentioned as the highest paid player at their position of n the future

This never had anything to do with free agent acquisitions. The NFL has a hard salary cap - you can't just buy all your talent. We've had cap issues many years as is. Success in the NFL is about balancing large vet contracts with quality youth talent on cheap rookie deals.

Saints have been in cap hell for the past few years, yet they manage to get key players in FA.

Yeah but that has nothing to do with how rich the owner is or their willingness to spend money. Every team has to be within the margin of the cap floor/ceiling. Its has more to do with GM philosophy and cap management.
