Midfield NFL shield is gone (speculation)

I still don't see anything that suggests a change of the midfield logo, what gives?  Hell he could be looking at changing the field turf for all way know.

I think the supposition is based on the number of Panthers' employees that are tweeting and retweeting the photo. They are clearly hinting at something. It has been reported that signatures of Richardson at the stadium have been removed and the thought is that the change in logo is another way to highlight the future rather than the past. It could be changed just in time for Fanfest. It allows Tepper to symbolically show primary loyalty to the team rather than the league.

I think this is a sign that the new regime is monitoring social media and message boards like this.

Upon further review, those aren’t socks (I also thought they were at first)...they are showing each possible variation with the black pants as an option...could we see more black pants this season?

I’ll see if I can shop the black pants on the white and blue uniforms when I get home from work

Wow - I hadn't heard that piece of info. He really did.

Here's the full explanation from Jonathan Jones.

Tepper sent shockwaves when, at the end of a press conference two weeks ago, he said he was “contractually obligated to keep that statue as it is.” What was said, and how it was said, created more questions than answers.

According to a league source I spoke with, the statue will likely never go anywhere. Any workarounds, like building a bigger statue beside it, or draping something over it, or even leaving it behind if the team moves to a new stadium in the Carolinas … all of these options were considered.

“As long as that team is in the Carolinas, which will likely be forever because Mr. Tepper has no intention of moving them,” the source says, “as long as they are the Carolina Panthers, that statue needs to be there.”

Just like you’d have no need for wedding portraits of your home’s previous owners hanging in the foyer, Tepper has no use for a massive statue of Richardson sandwiched between two panthers. On top of anyone’s personal feelings about the statue, it’s in the middle of the access to one of the stadium’s three main entrances. But the reason why Tepper is stuck with a statue of the disgraced former owner is three-fold.

From the jump, it was made clear to all interested buyers this was non-negotiable. The statue—that two years ago those around Richardson claimed he didn’t even want—had become part of the deal. Although I was told during the process that the sale would be an auction to the highest bidder, Tepper reportedly had the lowest offer among the three finalists (though the billionaire was ready to cut a check any day and the other bidders were searching for financing). If you’re coming in with a lower bid and this statue is near and dear to the heart of the seller, is it worth rocking the boat?

David Tepper's honeymoon phase with the Carolina Panthers

Seems pretty obvious now that the whole "Mr. Richardson doesn't really want this statue but the junior partners insisted" schtick was total bulls--t.

Also interesting that Jones points out Tepper was not just a low bidder, but the lowest bidder. Perhaps that's a bit of a "f--k you" to Richardson from the NFL.

I just wonder what would happen if the statue was just gone one day ? Is the sale of the team voided at that point and ownership reverts back to Richardson? Or is it just a gentleman’s agreement ? Or will tepper just wait until he kicks the bucket then take it down ? I honestly can’t see that statue being there 10 years from now .

And what is the penalty if he decides to tear it down?

Not like they’re going to be able to take the team away from him, so it’s got to be a financial penalty, but how big could it be that Tepper won’t just bite the bullet and pay it, guy just paid $2 Billion for the team.

The contract probably has a liquidated damages provision that specifies damages if the clause is breached. If so, he could tear down the statue and simply pay the amount stipulated in the contract. Now, if there happened to be an accidental explosion that destroyed the statue..........:eyeroll:

If someone can answer perhaps an obvious question that I'm too lazy to google, why did we insist on having the NFL logo at midfield?

Because our previous owner wanted to “thank” the NFL for allowing us to have a franchise.

Or something submissive like that

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
