Gettleman isn't a pansy in any stretch of the imagination when it comes to doing things his way running a football team. He just isn't. He wasn't afraid to step on toes and that's likely what got him fired. No way in the world that I believe that he would've made it rain in Kalil's bank account if he didn't want to. Even the length and structure of the contract had to be well thought out. No one's gonna convince me that he wasn't fully responsible. Even if he had people whispering in his ear, he cosigned that choice with authority. He's not lilly-livered in any kind of way.

What player/contract did DG ever treat like M Kalil?  

My point, when did DG ever give a free agent a multi year, high paid contract?  He did it for some homegrown talent, but I can't recall 1 other instance of him opening the checkbook for "someone else's" stuff.

He gave Cam, Luke, KK, Trai, etc...some (really) good contracts, but not so much with true free agents.

Something smelled off from the very start with this one.

That thought has crossed my mind, but it's one of those things filed under the category of "we'll never know".

Gettleman never talks about those things, and these days Richardson doesn't talk about anything at all.
