I know, but OT hasn’t been strong at all lately in the draft

Mostly true. But Ramzyck at #26 turned out pretty well for the Saints last year. Dion Dawkins for the bills was excellent and starts this year as their LT after a strong rookie season at RT.

The kid in Denver? Jags?

Edit: Bolles and Cam what's-his-name.

What the hell has Kalil done with his offseason?  All I saw this year on IG were multiple panther players working out multiple times a week, if not daily.  He is resembling someone who just starting working out after having the last 4 months off...holy crap.

Yeah, I didn't mention those as success stories because I've heard some negatives about both. Even so they were both in their rookie years. I mean I'm not trying to argue for a moment that there isn't a league wide dearth of OTs. But equally its a fallacy that there hasn't been a successful OT available in recent drafts.

It is hindsight, but many of us were saying at the time, given the choice of paying top dollar for a guy who has been a liability for a long time versus a rookie salary for a draft pick and building for the future, it seems risky betting on MKalil and has cap consequences elsewhere. Anyway, we're locked in for at least the upcoming year so it's kind of a moot point. We just have to support him and hope that he gets better.

And this is why there's training camp and practice. Hope Kalil can get this stuff straightened out or it's going to be a long season for us and short season for Cam.

On the bright side, Mario sure looked quick!

Kalil is pushing 30 and a seasoned vet. He is what he is at this point - a liability. Both on the field and toward the cap.

I agree with you there, SP.  Starting a thread to say Kalil sucks at this point is like intentionally and repeatedly running over roadkill.  We don't need any more evidence or fuel for the fire.

At this point, all we can do is hope.

I think they restructured giving him more money up front. I'm not strong on how these things work but i remember a lengthy thread about it.

Yes. A very long, misinformed thread that was about something that Hurney had no choice in making. And I spent the entire year trying to warn everyone that there were no “easy outs”, and that exact scenario was going to happen. It was written in his original contract.

And like most, your memory of that thread is still that Hurney did “something” he didn’t HAVE to. But, as it was plainly explained then, and many times since, Hurney did nothing and people just choose to forget the facts and remember the agenda. General statement not directed at you

On another note, how sad is it that Cam Newton has arguably played with the 3 worst LTs in the NFL in the last 5 years?

Byron Bell, Mike Remmers, Matt Kalil.  The real question is who was the worst of them all (at LT - Remmers wasn't good, but he wasn't flat-out unplayable at RT)?  I wanna say Bell.  I'm pretty sure it was Bell.

Fair enough. To be honest I was clueless by the end of that thread about what exactly had been done. There was a lot of disagreement and people on both sides were adamant that they had it right. All I gathered was regardless of the money, it made him less worthwhile to cut earlier. I may be wrong on that too. Either way, with regards to this year at least its pretty obvious we are committed to him as starting LT.

Agree he got paid and doesn't care.
