The State of the Offensive Line: Will Taylor Moton Suffice?

I think we're worrying about the wrong Kalil. Matt is going to be no worse than last year (terrible, but can be worked around some). It's what happens to Ryan Kalil that is going to make or break this line.

There's a good reason we aren't seeing Larsen tagged as our new LG, even though he seems to be doing well in camp. It's because he's the best backup to Ryan and he is going to have to be ready to come in at a moment's notice and Rivera knows that. I get the feeling that Ryan is back this year on a "Let's see if I can make it" effort. That neck injury last year could be one that is easy to re-injure or make worse. If he goes out then we lose so much and Larsen at center is our only hope at keeping the line working. And after seeing last year, he seems to be of journeyman skill level.

Left guard and left tackle are terrible for us right now. Matt has so much money tied up in his contract that benching him before he has a shot on the field would be near criminal. Benching him after that, if he is no better than last year, is going to be inevitable. That's the next big worry and Moton was the big hope there, but now he's locked into taking over for DW.

Does Amini lose the LG position? I'm not betting on it yet simply because what we have behind him are some serious no-names and a couple of training camp hopefuls. And those same guys are having to train up for tackle possibilities, too. If there was ever a time for a new white buffalo to be calved out there in the wilds of Spartanburg, now is the time.

We better hope this offense moves fast for passing and rushing this season, because that line looks like it was drawn in sand.

So I won't copy all of these clips because they really say very little. I can find clips on anyone which shows how great they are or how bad they are. So the only posted item even worth noting was the help statistic. And let's look at that. If the average amount of help was over 29% and Williams got help 38% of the time that isn't that much. On 400 snaps a season that was roughly 36 more snaps than average or roughly 2 a game. Hardly conclusive. Also depends on exactly what constituted help and if this was pass blocking or run blocking. Was it help on a missed block, double team on a run block, or in pass blocking was it a chip by a TE or the back help when Cam holds the ball and he has been blocking for 5 seconds or longer.

Regardless those that study and grade players thought he was the second best right tackle in the game. Sorry Saca you got no credibility and these posts just prove what you don't know, more than they support what you think you do know.

Not really fair to include those clips of Cam. Just read the caption he put with it. "Best in the NFL", "deserving of DPOY", "triple team". Put on his highlights and you can find him doing that to just about every tackle in the league.
