There were 5 people competing for that position. Do you sit here all day and still not follow what's happening?

There's two and one is a backup center. The rest are worse than Amini.

I get where you're coming from and generally agree with the sentiment that nobody should celebrate this injury on a personal level for DW. To give the benefit of the doubt though, you could argue that @tondi was trying to find a positive outcome of this injury for the Panthers cap situation, and speculating about this, rather than looking at it from DW's perspective. That's how I choose to read it-rightly or wrongly.

Personally after this year, I hope that they give him a one year deal at a fair rate, that gives him the chance to earn his big money deal the following year. I would be really sad if they let him go in FA after last year.

Yea, I doubt that @tondi meant any harm and was just trying to find something to not be sad about. It gets posted nearly every time we have a player of value go down during a contract year (and 99.9999999% of the time they aren't intending to be malicious or ignorant). It wasn't aimed at them specifically, just a trigger-me-timbers rant :P

I get what you are saying, but this comparison has like 0 correlation to your 1st paragraph.

He also had the chance to negotiate a contract in the offseason but held off (presumably to replicate his 2017 season and get paid top dollar). There was risk/reward there, like practically everything in life, and unfortunately the risk won out in the battle. That is why all of the vets hold out of training camp that are looking for new contracts - a meaningless injury like this could happen and you can kiss that long-term contract goodbye.

"On the bright side, Bill was helping us while off the clock so he won't collect workman's comp, and we'll save money on not filling his spot."

Better?

He should have signed then instead of ask for top dollar, betting on himself to get Max contractinstead of trying to help this team win for years to come

Well it worked out for Norwell.

Signing a guard is more likely than an OT
