On the bright side, resigning him may have just gotten a lot cheaper. Hope he's OK though as well really need him.

I know that no harm is meant by stuff like this, but it is absolutely disgusting regardless of how it is intended.

A person in a career with an already short lifespan just lost a year of it, and he has had knee issues in the past. This might be worse than "Oh, get surgery, rehab, and then come back next year like nothing happened." This person is hurt, is now going to lose out on an already limited opportunity, and what do we say is the bright side? That he might make less money for our entertainment value? That's garbage.

Granted, it could be a situation where he gets surgery, rehabs, and comes back like nothing ever happened. But seriously... has anybody ever watched a co-worker get hurt on the job and then said, "Well... on the bright side we'll have more room in the employee fridge while Bill gets his arm re-attached?" No? Then why do we do it here?

That's dramatic !

we lost kelvin benjamin, stephen hill, and like 8 guys in 2011 to season ending injuries on that field, and that’s just off the top of my head

we should just mark every spot where someone got catastrophically injured on that field and have the rookies pour a 40 oz on it when camp breaks to pay respects

I get where you're coming from and generally agree with the sentiment that nobody should celebrate this injury on a personal level for DW. To give the benefit of the doubt though, you could argue that @tondi was trying to find a positive outcome of this injury for the Panthers cap situation, and speculating about this, rather than looking at it from DW's perspective. That's how I choose to read it-rightly or wrongly.

Personally after this year, I hope that they give him a one year deal at a fair rate, that gives him the chance to earn his big money deal the following year. I would be really sad if they let him go in FA after last year.

I get what you are saying, but this comparison has like 0 correlation to your 1st paragraph.

He also had the chance to negotiate a contract in the offseason but held off (presumably to replicate his 2017 season and get paid top dollar). There was risk/reward there, like practically everything in life, and unfortunately the risk won out in the battle. That is why all of the vets hold out of training camp that are looking for new contracts - a meaningless injury like this could happen and you can kiss that long-term contract goodbye.

I wonder how much this injury will impact him in future seasons. With a big injury, resigning him should be much cheaper - just not sure he will ever be the same again.

He's not going to sign for a multi-year deal after an injury. He'll likely bet on himself and do a one year deal in hopes of getting that one mega-deal that most young players desire.
