From my perspective, and at this point in his career, this is one of those issues where it kinda just is what it is. Some fans want to gleefully highlight the realistically small number of instances of "bad" mechanics, but have little to say when Newton is putting the offense on his back, which over the years has overwhelmingly been the case more often than not.

These negative conversations about Newton move the needle here this time of year though so you'll see nudging by the huddle brass to move things along. I get it, but at some point it dilutes what you're offering by doing this. Meh.

I would agree with that as well. You're not going to make major changes at this point in his career, but it's dissapointing that it's something he never fixed, because of the talent he has. I think it's the biggest hole in his game, and something that should have been relatively easy to fix.

Well realistically though you can't strictly look at this from a normal QB standpoint though can you? I mean as far as the workload of what Newton is tasked with accounting for in his particular offense and the central role he plays within all those moving parts compared to other QB's across the league. Right?

It's still very early though, we're barely into the first week of training camp with a new OC, and some new wide receivers. Time will tell. Personally, I think there will be improvement, but those that want picture perfect mechanics at all times won't be satisfied either way. Ohwell. I'm really looking forward to the additions of more big play potential to the offense, we know that is Newton's bread and butter regardless of all this other pointless banter about mechanics.

But we're not talking about everything else he brings. I'm talking strictly mechanics.

There's not a whole bunch of reason for him to be falling away on that throw. There is no pass rush. But he's faiding and throwing off the back foot. That's the reason the ball was underthrown and the reason he struggles with accuracy at times.

Now, if we're bringing it all into the conversation, the arm talent to be able to throw the ball like he did consistently during NFL games is ridiculous. Drew probably couldn't get the ball 30 yards downfield throwing like I've seen Cam throw 50+. It's insane. And precisely why I say it's dissapointing that it's something that was never cleaned up, because he's the most physically gifted QB I've ever watched.

By most accounts so far, including even from Igo himself who is on scene, Newton has been overall crisp and on point with his throws.

Again. It's hard to tell where things truly are until we get to preseason. Even then I wouldn't read too much into it.

The mechanics are terrible, whether you'd like to admit that or not lol.

Rodgers has poor mechanics on many of his throws when he's maneuvering in the pocket. As long as the ball gets there...

Are we acting like maneuvering in the pocket during a game and throwing a pass in 1 on 1s with no pass rush is the same?

No we’re telling it like it is. Cam’s mechanics are what they are and he’s proven he can get the ball there and throw the ball at an MVP level. Consistency has been an issue, yes, but that’s not because of mechanics. Coaching change this year may very well help with that.
