I’m just saying slow down with hyping him up so much this early in camp.

Yeah, this "don't sleep on him" stuff made me think he was the second coming of 89. :eyeroll:

This is the kind of stuff we ask for...Igo's and others' opinions who are actually watching these guys. I don't see anyone hyping this guy beyond "he was a good signing" or as I said, "he'll shine in Norv's offense," based on, you know, his history with Norv.

Apparently any positive, hopeful comment is now "hype."

It's constant cycle. We need depth & role players, we sign depth, and role, we complain they aren't Antonio Brown.

To be honest, I kind of understand with the let's not hype too much crowd. Not only about Wright but our entire WR corps.

AND I know I myself tend to hype, even earlier in this thread, about how hard it's going to be to sit any of our top 6 guys.

But sadly it still is early.  And I and MANY of us have bought in on the "we've really upgraded our WR talent" line before.  Now of course last year injuries derailed Byrd and Samuel, and worse, we list Greg for most of the season.

For me the biggest reason to hope for improvement is Norv.  But I'm trying to temper my expectations a bit.

2017 WR depth chart: Benjamin, Funchess, Samuel, Byrd, Bersin.

2018 WR depth chart: Funchess, T. Smith, J. Wright, DJ Moore, Samuel, Byrd.

Night and day difference. Dudes they were relying on to start games last year are at the back of the depth chart now and replaced with guys who have Superbowl rings and 1st round talent with no blown out ACLs.

Optimism isnt hype. Hype is making the assumption that a player will be fantastic based on wishful thinking and counting on it as a foregone conclusion.

Optimism is having a positive attitude about potential. I don't know how you cant be optimistic about this group.

Pretty excited about adding both Moore and Wright.

I do appreciate Torrey too, but more for his leadership perhaps than what his on field production will be, though his being a deep threat will be very important IF he catches a reasonable amount of his targets.

Our coaches may have a very difficult decision who gets on the field from our WRs. Typically we often only have had 4 active on game day, though that may have been skewed by the years we had Joe Webb actuve as an emergency WR.

We've got 6 guys that all could provide real value at WR. Look how Byrd flashed last night.  Who would you sit among our top 6 WRs?!  Glad I'm not a coach.

In Norv's system I see us probably playing differently every game. With McCaffrey you could load up heavy RB one game and Heavy WR another.

I totally get that. But when someone who has seen several camps posts an opinion about a player from camp, it's exactly what I'm looking for. And I also realize it's just one opinion. When someone posts, "Super Bowl!" without sarcasm, then yeah, I'll probably call for a little less hype. That's not what's happening here. I'm excited to see what these new guys can do and if they can live up to what I believe they are capable of.

That isn't hype, it's hope.

I hadn't known until recently that Norv started as a WR coach.  It sounds like he is providing very hands on coaching to that group and demanding real improvement (perfection!) on their routes.  We may be shocked at the transformation in our WR corps, at least I hope so!!

His best job, that I can recall, was turning Vincent Jackson into a household name, and Malcolm Floyd a really good player.

Wright is not some unknown (unless you're Troy Aikman). He is a career backup (even under Norv Turner). He is finger food which is generally not ideal as a meal, but will do in a crunch (like potato chips to quell hunger, pun intended).

I'm good with a melody of sliders. Maybe some tapas and an assortment of quality sashimi, nigiri, and some rolls.
