It's finally hitting me that Garrett Gilbert being the backup QB wasn't just talk, it's probably happening

Who? Lol

Google is your friend instead of a rapid 2 second smartass response.

A guy that we lost in the trade up to get useless Daeshon Hall.  A guy that Steve Smith said on air was the most impressive QB at the 2017 combine.  A guy that BEAT the Panthers last preseason at BOA.

Yes there is.  Josh Dobbs for a late pick.  Immediately.  Doesn’t get cheaper than a late pick on a guy with 3 more years left on a rookie day 3 salary.  Make the move now and he gets training camp, which is invaluable.  He’s obviously got light years more athleticism and potential than Gilbert.

You’re assuming the Steelers would trade Dobbs for a late round pick.  Your assumption would be wrong.  They just spent a 4th on him last year.

Hall has done just as much as Dobbs in REAL games. If Dobbs is the plan you might as well stick with Garrett.

Dobbs replacement is already on the Steelers roster in Mason

But what I was saying was we traded UP to get Hall and lost Dobbs.

Nevermind Dobbs’ athleticism and upside, a 23 year old on his second team makes world’s more sense than a 27 year old on his 5th.

Honestly, a lot of teams have unproven guys at backup QB. It's not that unusual.

That said, Matt Moore is still available.

There's unproven and then there's a QB that's never had a regular season snap and has never done a thing in any preseason despite being 27 years old and having been on 5 different teams.

The Saints are backing up Drew Brees with a combination of Tom Savage and Taysom Hill. Not exactly awe inspiring. Heck, a fair number of teams have undrafted rookies less than two or three years under their belt.

Voth has said that he isn't absolutely convinced this year's backup quarterback is on the roster yet. Either way though, it helps a little to know that we have a guy who's actually capable of coaching quarterbacks well in Norv Turner.

We're probably screwed if Newton is injured, but that's status quo in the NFL these days. Nick Foles is an anomaly.

IIRC Moore did not look good in his appearances for Miami last year.

I think Miami and general hasn't looked good honestly.

With that said, if we alternate Lee choose to stick with Gilbert as the backup, I won't scream about it.
