Rosters are 90 men deep at this point. Teams have Director’s of Security to handle this type of work and serve as a point of contact between police departments and teams/players but the guy cannot be attached to each player’s hip at all times. On trips to away games, a team will travel with another 5-6 off duty police officers but that is moreso to assist with team security and ensure people aren’t going in and out of their hotel rooms past curfew.

50,000 per handler is around 4.5 million a year.  Not bad for a pro football franchise worth billions

I agree with you but many of these teams pay their equipment, operations, scouting, strength and conditioning assistants etc. minimum wage or close to it. The jobs are intensely competitive and it’s a brutal business to crack into meaning there’s always going to be someone willing to do it for cheaper or no pay at all. Rather than teams shell out money and make the effort to keep their guys in line, I would think their agents/agency would have a handler assigned to them if they know their client could potentially be trouble.

Do teams have handlers for players? It would seem to me that, especially in this day and technology age, it would be worth it for teams to employ people to follow around the guys just to try and prevent this from happening.

These are grown ass men. No adult should have someone following them around having to whisper in their ear.

Sorry to hear of this.  With all the horrid news in the NFL in recent weeks, it had been a relief to have almost all the Panthers drama be about Tepper's arrival and the JR statue. (TDs suspension I guess too, but that seems like ancient news...). To have this story break literally on the EVE of training camp is a big disappointment and a very unwanted distraction.

It seems like no charges have yet been pressed, and even if Butler is charged this might only be the lowest level misdemeanor....   BUT

Butler is not a guy whose performance so far gives him much margin for error.  And in the wake of the JR scandal and Tepper wanting to promote a change of culture, anything that even hints of abuse towards women could be enough...

Sigh... Definitely not how I wanted off season to end. We need Butler to step up. This was to be his time to shine, but he might now be getting attention for the wrong reasons.

Hope Butler is innocent and this all blows over quickly.

So does this appear to be an isolated incident or pattern. Let's watch the film that will inevitably show up in the next few days. Like everyone else I am concerned but I know how biased the media can be when they are trying to find a story. So let's see what happens and hope he wasn't impaired or stupid enough to be pushing anyone around who is likely half his size. He has to know he is a target with a big bulleye in the middle.
