Falcons tell Julio Jones to suck it

PanthersATL

Recommended Posts

Julio was told he won't get a new contract this year, not giving him his desired raise.  They are currently focused on Grady Jarrett, Jack Matthews, and Ricardo Allen rather than budgeting a renegotiation for Julio.  Julio was informed "several weeks ago" of the team's decision.

"several weeks ago" sounds like "at Cam's kickball game" to me.

Falcons may look to rework his contract next year.  Or not. Who knows?

He's great, but he has two years left on his deal.

I'll rarely, if ever, support an extension with 2 years remaining...especially when those years cap hit's are as low as they are for ATL.

Really wish they would make a mistake with this one and extend him.

He actually has 3 more years left.

Hope he turns prima Donna and causes big distraction, holds out of camp, etc.

Doubt he will. He was at Matt Ryan’s camp over the weekend.

Not saying he will but him being at Ryan’s camp means literally nothing. His beef is with the team management not his fellow players. And he has skipped out thus far...

Ouch....

We want guaranteed contracts.

We want to re-negotiate said contracts halfway through.

We want security.

We want to keep up with the market, not be locked into a "unfair" deal.

Confusing.

I agree 100%... It's ridiculous how they sign these contracts then want more. Every contract should have in it mandatory that if there's a holdout before contract is complete, they forfit money for the entire year. Non negotiable. So fuging sick of this poo every year now, you sign a fuging contract... Honor it. If you think you deserve more, ask for more at signing, not halfway through when you see other getting paid more then you.

The easy solution is stop guaranteeing anything but the signing bonus and a base salary for injury. Everything else is incentive based. That way players who outperform make more and those who don't make less. That is pretty much what happens in every other field but sports.

Agreed.  I keep hearing about "guaranteed" contracts.  That's what they have now.  Whatever is guaranteed at signing...is your only guarantee.

If the NFL players want to move to guaranteed contracts like some of the other sports, they will have to start accepting much shorter deals.

    • At least Rivera got the Super Bowl, and then lost is because he refused to adjust.  Rod’s likely will never get to the Stanley Cup unless the team he coaches is stacked and can overcome Rods weird decisions making.
    • Reddit has one of the most toxically positive fan base. You cannot criticize the team at all. If you do downvoted.
    • We've literally seen him hop around the pocket to survey the field in multiple occurrences. Defenses have this on tape. Cam and QB's like him built the way he was height and strength wise could get by on those natural gifts in their prime. Bryce Young is unequivocally going to have to go above and beyond with his footwork in order to carve out not just a long career but an elite career worthy of a top overall draft selection. We should be able to wholeheartedly agree with one another on that. Intermediate sideline throws without placing the ball out of bounds where the receiver has to contort themselves or make an absurd acrobatic catch for it to be a completion. And yes developing a better chemistry in the deep passing game with his receivers to avoid miscues. Both areas will need to see improvement if the young offense is to develop the way we hope in 2025. And we don't necessarily need to be winning mind you. But development of the supporting cast requires this from Bryce. We have invested a ton of capital in the offensive line. We've invested heavily in WR. We've invested in our backfield. We've invested in TE. We've got a young up and coming offensive minded head coach. The expectation should be for our redzone efficiency to improve significantly. That is not just on Bryce Young. But at the end of the day it will always begin and end with him more often than not. It's always been that way and that's just the nature of the position in this league. And not for nothing but before we drafted Bryce Young nobody was going around here saying we need elite play across the board and top shelf coaching for him to be effective. His biggest selling point was his ability to succeed off script and make something out of nothing. We're certainly going to have to see that come to fruition. Now we wait.
