What Would You Consider To Be a Successful 2018 Season?

Pantha-kun

How would you define the upcoming season as a good one?

  1. 1. How so?

    • Having any type of winning record even if we miss the playoffs (Having back to back winning seasons the first time in franchise history)
      8
    • Having a great record regardless of what we do in the playoffs (Ex. 12-4 or better)
      10
    • Sweeping the Saints and winning division (Reguardless of what we do in the playoffs)
      7
    • Winning 1 playoff game
      15
    • Winning 2 playoff games
      11
    • Getting to NFCCG
      34
    • Winning NFCCG
      3
    • Get to SB
      10
    • Win SB (for this one you would consider anything else a failure)

Yea its July but pre season is next month and regular season is the month after, we're getting pretty close in my mind.

I was wondering how exactly people here define a successful season after coming of an 11-5 years.

Last season was weird to me b/c we finished with a great record but got 3x swept by the Saints and lost in the WC playoffs.  Nice record but we had an embarassing loss to the Bears and did jack all in the playoffs after missing it the season before, and losing the SB season before that.

I know we have new offense this year and we still havent quite figured out our WR core, so I'm trying to realistically curb my expectations a bit. Id love to get a SB but how realistic is that?

I would say, its a successful season if we win 2 playoff games. Winning a WC and getting ousted in the divisional, or even going 16-0 and losing the divisional will not satisfy me. I basically think it would be great if we could make it to NFCCG.

Thats just what i define as successful. My realistic view of what will happen? I think we go 10-6, win the WC, and lose in the divisional.

You’ll get mostly “anything less than a super bowl is a failure” answers to this question from the huddle

My answer is always the same. I just want to make the playoffs and have a shot come January. You can’t hoist the Lombardi unless you are one of those twelve teams in the tournament. Being one of those 12 teams constitutes a successful season in my eyes.

Good reg season record and competitive playoff run. I picked get to NFCCG but if we win wildcard and then lose a close one to MN or somebody I wouldn’t necessarily consider it a failure. I do think though that we’re getting awfully close to the point of SB win or bust every year with this staff and Cam and Luke...

I will be disappointed if we don’t win the division though after it should’ve been ours last year despite the Aints sweeping us.

Agree

But i voted to get to the SB, I want to relive that 2 week build up again and the energy of the game itself, even with the shite outcome that was great fun.

Cam is firmly in his prime and won't have his running ability for much longer, so anything less than a Superbowl win at this point would feel disappointing. Good chunk of the key players on this team have been there and the Panthers were a solid team in 2017, it's not out of the question.

The more I think about this, the more I conclude that a winning season would make this season a success. That would mark the first time in team history that they had successive winning seasons.

That's a low bar. Especially considering the QB is almost 30.

....except that in the history of the franchise it has never followed a winning season with another winning season. Breaking that trend will be a solid accomplishment. I believe they have a great chance to escape that hallmark of consistent inconsistency.

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
