Is Hurney next to get the boot?

Hurney is responsible for doing more to improve the talent level on this team this offseason than I can recall in this teams history. For that we actually have some excitement about this offense. His return paved the way for getting rid of Shula and a tangible connection between coaching and those responsible for providing coaches with what they want. It paved the way for dealing away Gettlemans bums. Time will tell how successful these maneuvers were but they were something.

Please describe what part of the team Hurney was responsible for last year? K(wrong choice) and trading our #1 WR and not even attempting to add anything resembling a NFL WR. And we wound up with that pitiful receiving core. How in the world does he get credit for last year?

Ohh. Gettleman nut hugger....that explains it.

So a GM who wasn't part of the team when the team makes the playoffs deserves credit, but the one who was actually part of the team gets only blame. You're an idiot.

And that says nothing of the fact Benjamin wanted out. Plus, if he was so great, how did we win more without him than with him?

I don’t care that he traded him. I’ve always said it was smart. Not trying to sign some sort of WR for depth didn’t make sense.

Let’s see....one GM made 98% of the moves that shaped the roster. The other did next to nothing. But sure... Marty watched the games from the stadium so he’s the man.

This is such a hard topic.

The moves this off-season could be his savior or his demise or Tepper might just want to start with his own stamp on this team regardless of what happens.

I am tending to lean towards the latter.  During the press conference Tepper mentioned Rivera and Turner but not Hurney.  Was this an oversight?  Or was he hinting that he'll make a change.

I don't think the statue will have anything to do with it but I do believe his close association with JR might.   He dumped the lawyer because of the association and rightly so.

The Kaelin Clay trade was a nice touch. So was the Worley release. I thought the Poe signing was great. I think he brought in safety help and Cockrell was a thoughtful signing. The back end of our defense is improved which is ultimately why we lost to NO.

Marty is responsible for:
Cam Newton
Luke Kuechly
Greg Olsen
Thomas Davis
Ryan Kalil
Julius Peppers
DJ Moore
Torrey Smith
Dontari Poe

He is also responsible for cutting older done players on this roster, and extending youth. Let's give him at least a little bit of a chance.

Since only the first sentence is relevant to the 2017, not sure what your point is. And Clay having to be on our active roster was part of the problem, not the solution.

You can’t judge anything he’s done this off-season. It’s July. I think he did a decent job this off-season. Honestly, if Rashaun Gaulson was Justin Reid, i would been ecstatic. Still did Good, but none of us know that. And except for Gano signing, I thought he did well in FA. But again, who really knows. You can’t use this off-season as an example before its played. Every idea looks good on paper.

The thread was about his job security. If Tepper sat down with him and discussed his resume up to this point, it wouldn’t go well.

Lol. You mean the OL that had 3 guys that were All-Pro or Pro-Bowlers that he drafted in the 3rd and 4th and signed as an UDFA? Those 3 guys were all on the team before Gettleman was fired. Also, Moton who we haven’t seen yet was also drafted by him. If he replaces Norwell effectively, seems like he did a decent job. Not perfect but geez. Could you imagine how bad the OL would be if he actually did a bad job drafting?

Also, there was a lot Hurney could have done. We’ve been training Moton to be a tackle and this draft class was the best G draft class ever. Gettleman took a great one early in the 2nd. Hurney could have easily drafted Norwell’s replacement and allowed Moton to possibly take over for Kalil. Little he could do is laughable knowing we were down a guard and this draft was amazing at guard and we took two DBs that might not play much at all. I hope they do because the draft’s over.

The biggest problems from last season were addressed, and you can't totally fix everything in one offseason. Arguably, the biggest problem with the O-line, and perhaps the entire team, was and is the LT position  and the absolutely horrendous contract---both financially and structurally---given to Matt Kalil. That money could have been used a whole helluva lot more efficiently not only in terms of the O-line, but perhaps other positions. Moreover, Gettleman had several years to address the position adequately. If He and the coaches thought Moton was up to the task, then Kalil probably wouldn't have been signed.

As for Norwell, there was nothing really to do accept try and find an adequate replacement because Hurney rightly let him go, as he played himself out of our budget. Guard is a lot easier to replace because it's really not as critical as the tackle or center positions. Like it or not, Hurney had to pick and choose, so he chose to upgrade our receiver and corner positions, and acquired Sirles as a possible replacement or insurance for Norwell. And, honestly, I might rather have an OK vet out there than to bet on a rookie. I understand that people make this-or-that proclamations about draft classes, but it really is more hyperbole than reality, because the reality is that these guys haven't played the first down in the NFL. That being said, it's ultimately all guesswork, but still you come up with a way to field the best team possible considering the circumstances, and it appears like Hurney has at least done that on paper this offseason.

Moton was taken because ar the time William's didn't appear to be much.  Gettleman got lucky with Norwell but didn't have the vision to kick they guy yo when he was cheap.

Moton has never been a LT, why would anyone assume he's going to be one in the NFL?

We've got one position on the line to fill, the easiest, and a 2nd round pick primed to take it.
