Cam IS on the hot seat!

There's no question I'll always be a Panthers fan first, but it would be extremely uncomfortable and saddening for me to see Cam Newton in another uniform.  I really hope it doesn't come to that one day because I'm not sure I can picture it.  He's my favorite player to ever play for us.  Unfortunately there's fans out there that don't understand how good we have it with him.  We're always a contender with him as QB.  Hell even in 2016 with an injured Cam and a bad defense, he managed to keep us in damn near every game somehow.

But yeah, Cam on the hot seat?  Not at all.  He'd have to absolutely crap the bed this year and that would surprise me to say the least.

I guess Newton must be reading my posts so let me explain it to and for him. Cam isn't on a hot seat like he can be fired or traded at this point but every one knows that he has to make the transition from a running quarterback who throws to largely a passing quarterback who can still run when he has to. Norv and Scott were brought in to help Cam make the transition since Shula and his minions couldn't. So if Turner can't flip the switch in the next 2 sessions, I doubt we pay 30 million a year to a guy who can't hit 65% of his  passes. Rivera already said Cam is taking two many hits and can't be our primary back. Otherwise he won't last to 33.

He’s never been a running QB. You’ve been looking at him wrong the whole time if that’s what you think.

Efficieny is one thing. But consider he’s been tasked with carrying a high risk high reward offense for years now without the proper weapons.

This offense has had the same philosophy since the John Fox days. It’s just been upgraded with Cam and Olsen.

He will go down as the best rushing quarterback ever until someone breaks the record one day. But of course he does more than run the ball. He is a quarterback after all and they all throw the ball more than they run. But Cam still runs way too much when he gets pressure. He thinks run first even turning his back from his receiver. He is looking to take off not take what the defense gives him. It is his mindset. He has done his whole career.

But if you were Cam Newton you would also know that running (with his skill set) is sometimes the best play to win. That matters more than a trivial efficiency stat that doesn’t take in context. Especially when he’s had a number of suspect pass catchers.

Id rather Cam make the plays to win then thinking of what Colin Coward or Skip Bayless is going think Monday morning on his passer rating.

The dude is Brett Favre with legs. He’s always going to believe he can make the play.

There are all kinds of of reasons he ran so much in the past but it doesn't matter. This isn't about the past but the future. He can't keep running without sustaining injuries which could end his career. Look at Steve Young or Donovan McNabb who could both Rin and pass. Both retired due to injuries sustained running the ball. Cam can't be running 100 times a season when he is 35. And with Turner and his present weapons he has no excuses for not being a much better passer going forward.

Right but he’s never had this kind of weaponry before. His ability to convert 3rd down is always going to be an asset no matter how old he gets. I don’t want him running like a mad man all the time either. But I’ve never assumed he does that anymore than he needs to.

This is 100% on coaching and not Cam. If Cam had one single competent QB coach or OC his entire career he'd be so much further ahead as a passer. Hopefully the Turners can do it.

He does run when he often has other easy options like a guy out in the flats. But teams know this and this is why they blitz him so often and he takes sacks trying to avoid it. I might be making this up since I haven't seen anything to prove my thoughts either way but when he came into the league his MO was that he was great when you blitzed him at beating it and making you pay.  As of late he seems more unsure and often takes sacks and makes mistakes when he gets blitzed. Almost as if those head shots and blitzing have "David Carred" him somewhat. Again I might be wrong. Just a perception that could be off base.

This is not true.

It is true. Look at what happens when he gets blitzed from the right side. He often drops back but turns his back as he starts to run to the left plus he is throwing against his momentum  which is much harder for a right handed player to make a throw versus running to his right which is essentially a roll out. Again this is when he faces a blitz not when he does a read option or intentionally rolls out that way. And yes you can find times he didn't but other teams look for small things like this to exploit.

That is why Shula is gone and Turner is here. If you are a Panther fan of course you hope that this new blood will help Newton improve. We have finally given him all the tools he needs including a better surrounding cast that he should have had all along.

Yeah but you make it sound like he takes off to run any chance he gets. Like mike Vick. That’s not true. There have been numerous stats to back that up on here over the years. At one point he was one of the best passers against the blitz. Last year was a bit of an anomaly for him and running because we didn’t have adequate receivers. Cam needs to be more consistent passing for sure but that goes hand in hand with receiver play. I’m very excited to see what he can do with the weapons we’ve brought in.
