Tepper Presser Takeaways

One other note that Gantt quoted, with interesting wording.

When discussing the staff, Tepper said " I appreciate some of the changes that were made on that staff," taking time to specifically mention new OC Norv Turner as someone that he liked.

Now, I take that more to mean that he liked Norv Turner being brought aboard, but yeah it could also conceivably be seen as a shot at Mike Shula.

Realistically though, Tepper is only recently becoming familiar with the staff, so it seems less likely he'd take a shot at former staff.  No reason to.

Regardless, make of it what you will.

Yeah, I thought it was interesting that he singled out Rivera and Norv, but nothing on Washington and when referring to the "football side" did not mention Hurney either.

I assume he didn't mention Washington because he's never been a DC and the defense is firstly a product of Rivera, with his DCs implementing it in their own ways. But, the Hurney non-mention seems clear that he'll be gone soon.

1. "What was, was. This is now."

Probably the most important quote from the day. Tepper just bought a used franchise, and he has no interest at all in talking about what the previous owner did with it. It is his now, time to move forward. Any media hoping to get more juicy details into JR's behavior will be disappointed.

2. Practice facility is happening. His most definitive language was used in regards to this. Look for an indoor practice field that can also be used for other functions.  Long overdue. It is silly that the team still has to practice at a hotel ball room when weather is bad. Embarrassing.

3. Tepper is a straight shooter. He did not have to say that he is under contract to keep the statue. He could have simply said it will stay. But, he chose to give all the info. Apparently, all the talk about open communication and transparency is not just lip service.

4. He is a Spiderman fan. This shows good taste in comics. If he would have gone Superman, I would have many concerns.

5. The Charlotte sports media was there in full force today. However, come the last days of training camp there will be 4 or 5 media types out there with me. We deserve better.

6. A team President will be named soon. He said he has two people in mind already. Look for it to be done before camp.

1)  When "It is What It Is" morphs to "What was, Was."  it has to be a good thing.

2)  SI in full force with questions about JR.  They really took ownership of that story and are pushing it.

5)  How were the seating arrangements handled?  or was it fcfs?  Same with order of questions, just random?  Which question did you think was the best?  (FNZ guy did well).

I do think it's also notable that Tepper said under his watch, the Panthers organization would never have non-disclosure agreements.

It's basically what Jourdan Rodrigue was looking for in her column a short time back, but at the team level rather than the NFL level.

Was Jerry Richardson's name ever actually mentioned?  I don't think it was.

He referred to "the old" and "the way things were" and such, but I don't recall him mentioning Richardson's name in that context.  I plan to review it again, but I don't even recall a "thank you".

Heck, even the statue was just referred to as "that statue".

SI has turned into their own brand of what they see as social justice...spew out their own militant opinions in all they do...they become less relevant as an actual Sports media entity every day

Exposing and calling out abuse of power and racist and sexist comments and actions isn’t a bad thing. People who do those things need to constantly be called out and held accountable. Our society no longer tolerates those actions and part of the way society stomps out things it deems unacceptable is to use shame as a tool.

JR deserves to be shamed for his actions for as long as he refuses to apologize and show corrective action. Based on his age I doubt he ever publicly takes responsibility for his actions. Therefore he should continue to be publicly shamed.

As a PSL holder, I am excited about this owner. I probably will not have them much longer

just praying he does not raise ticket prices. They weren’t cheap 20 years ago. They are less so now

im just hoping game day in the stadium is fun again and the product on the field competitive

i can tell you the long time bartenders were totally disgusted at all the things they could not do.

Fot the love of god, get the shield off the fifty

It's bad if you are a racist and/or sexist.
