How exactly do you ignore something and learn from it?

My basic rule is 20% and go from there. You'd have to be pretty deliberately awful for me to leave 5%. Like Karen wanting to talk to the manager bad if 5% is where I've landed. Also, the comment that you had $5 more than before shows it was intentional and not just I don't know how to tip.

You ignore it by not engaging with the guy on social media.

Some folks are just bad tippers. They are cheap and think they are some sort of food critic and micro examine every little detail for an excuse to be a poor tipper. Everyone knows someone like this. I also think some people get off on being a bad tipper, like they are sexual and mentally aroused by being a bad tipper.

Google the story on Tiger Woods when he went out to lunch with a group of navy seals/army rangers. What a cheap bastard.

I dont percent tip tbh. I tip 1-5 dollars per guest based off the service. So if it's just 2 people no matter how much i spend the best they'll get is 10 bucks. % tipping is stupid. If I order a steak or a piece of toast the amount of work the server did is the same..so they shouldn't be punished or rewarded any extra for it.

Usually because the prices are inflated. If I were to order a beer at the bar, I would give $1 plus whatever cents change there was. If it was a tab with a credit acrd, it would depend on how many drinks I paid for and other variables. If it's a whole night's tab, the tip will be between $20-$50. But it all depends. Bartenders are a different thing than just a simple 20% for a server. They can end up being more or less if I'm ordering beer by beer. Also getting a beer doesn't require much of a tip. Making a mint julip or some such nonsense requires a bigger tip...and a slap in the face if ordering such a drink.

I mean, it get what your point is but you could also make the argument that the food at a restaurant is inflated pricing too. Additionally, filling a drink up at a table requires about the same effort as filling up a beer does. I don't really ever factor in "difficulty" of the job to my tipping. I base it on a very rough percentage of what I spent and my actual experience with that person being tipped. If they show out, are attentive without being annoying, always on time with any service that is needed(drinks, orders, checks, etc), have a great attitude and excellent interactions, I will tip well over what is customary(sometimes in excess 100% if it was exceptional). If it is pretty standard fare for service, I will usually tip in the 15-25 range just depending on how I feel.

No tip from me is rare and it usually means I was pissed off at the service I received. If you really, REALLY make me mad(has happened only a few times) I will leave a small enough tip that there is clear intent for it to be an insulting tip.

I can see some logic in that but it's also the server's job to sell you on more and keep you happy and spending.

Also, side note, if I ever own a restaurant and my employees are harassing or pursing bad tippers on teh interwebz/social media, you would get canned. Don't drag my business into your personal dispute with some shitty tipper. We all know they exist, it's just a fact.

Stories of famous people being shitty tippers always go viral. This dude who was his server probably is going to be fired. I’d be surprised if he isn’t fired honestly but you never know, the place might have evidence the server did a good job and get his back....
