My dad has an interesting take on still tipping 15% like in the old days. Pry one of the better arguments for keeping it at 15% too. I do not subscribe to it but get it.

He said since the 15% is tied to the sale of food and prices have increased (production and inflation) that servers wages are inflation proof while salaried workers are the ones taking a hit on inflation.

"Yeah but my sweet tea was less than half full for over THREE minutes. You think that kind of service deserves a 15% tip?"

Yeah really and meanwhile their server is probably about to have a nervous breakdown from having to do 15 different things at once as well as arguing with the Hispanic line cooks about why they put sour cream on something when the ticket specifically asked for it not to be on there

cant

this thread is still alive and kicking.

If you can’t afford to tip 15%-20% on dinner, then you can’t afford to go out to dinner. Stay at home and eat a hot pocket or PB&J. NO ONE cares about your philosphy on why “tipping is stupid” or whatever other moronic opinion you have to justify being an ass and cheapskate. This is how our society and cultural is with tipping and going out to dinner. Too bad for you, adhere to it or stay home.

I’m sure you are an excellent judge of service and dining etiquette and are trained in the culinary arts. If you think service was bad - ask to speak to a manager. Don’t smile and be fake and then stiff the person who probably had nothing to do with it and crawl out like a coward. The manager will probably take care of some of your bill and in that case u really need to hook up the server.

Yall that are bad tippers on here - you REALLY need to look in a mirror and do some digging on why you feel it it necessary to be an asswipe and cheap. There is nobetter way to tell a low class, ignorant dipshit than to watch how a person behaves when they are out to dinner at a public setting.

Its amazing the numerous forms of convoluted rationalizations that some cheap MF'ers will come up with in their attempts to not admit that they are cheap MF'ers, lol.

So black people suck as tippers and Hispanics are useless as cooks? Hmmm...seeing a common theme here....

Regardless of what you look like - people who have never worked in the service industry, and are the furthest thing from a culinary and dining critic are usually the first people to pass judgement on service and have unrealistic expectations which usually means they are horrible tippers. Everyone reading this thread can probably relate to this if you have worked in SI - you all have a friend that has never set foot in a kitchen and expects the bartender or waitress to kiss their ass, flirt with them, and give all their attention to them and the minute these unrealistic expectations aren’t set the meter starts running on their tip calculator.

I dont know of anyone that feels the way you described and thats a good thing. People have different standards and those peoe u are referring to must eat in the real upscale places where you expected to perform in those means. Its all about the restuarant atmosphere and cost. I am expecting the service to match the cost. Sometimes the food is crappy and cost alot but service is great. I cant penalize the server for the crappy food. Restuarant is a mixing bowl when it comes to customers you should expect that there will be some crappy tippers. You are there to serve and do your job well. Its no different than any other job. Yes I have worked in the service industry. Just keep it moving!
