Donte Jackson just stepped in poo

Having worked as a waiter, and also having traveled some of the globe, I do have to say the conventions surrounding tipping in this country are a little strange, but that doesn't excuse ever leaving someone no tip.  Ignorance is not an excuse in other walks of life.  Keep in mind, your waiter has to tip out his food expo, his bar staff, and his bus boy.  If you leave no tip, he/she is literally paying money to be at work, and wait on you. Not to mention MOST problems with your food or even service in a restaurant have absolutely nothing to do with your waiter. If they spill a drink on you, use inappropriate language, or put their hand in your food, that's different.

My scale: Bad service - 10% On par - 15% Great Service 20% or more.  If the waiter does something that's bad enough to not leave a tip, you should really be speaking management.  But also make damn sure it's something they did, that was absolutely wrong.

Tipping is absolutely cultural though.  In some Asian countries, it's disrespectful to leave a tip.  It's like saying "you look so poor you need more money."  In those places, waiters are paid a livable wage.  In the USA, waiters generally make 2.50 an hour + tips.  The 2.50 usually just covers some taxes.  Most waiters get a check every few weeks for zero dollars.

I do think our Gratuity system could stand to be overhauled, however until it is, that doesn't give anyone a right to be an a-hole.

With all this said, having worked in several different restaurants, I can assure you people ABSOLUTELY remember customers that don't tip, and they ABSOLUTELY mess with people's food if you treat them poorly.  Like I said, not everyone will do this to you, but it is far more common than I ever imagined. If you go to the same restaurants time after time and don't tip, I'm sure the service you are getting is terrible.

So if the service was not very good should he still have to pay the 15%? Like it or not but it's a "tip." The amount he spent on food really shouldn't be as big of a factor.

Here's where it's acceptable to leave a $5 tip on a $125 order.

The server hit Jackson

The server spit on Jackson

The server called Jackson's momma a bad name.

Other than this you're just looking for an excuse to be a cheapskape.

Like this has been said a billion fuging times, but if you have a problem with the service, the server is usually AT BEST a small portion of the problem. Leave a regular tip and complain to the manager. The server knowing you're unhappy can't do anything to fix wait times and coverage, but the manager can. But y'all don't give a fug about any of that, you just want to feel better about being a piece of poo when you don't tip.

Should you tip the pizza delivery guy if there is a delivery charge added to the pizza?  Just wondering, seems like the best place to ask.

I don't like places that do that because I never know how much of that the company skims off the top before it's potentially handed out to drivers.

So I will still usually throw the driver $2-$3 on top of that, assuming the delivery fee is around $3-$5.

Personally, I kinda wonder what kind of an order it was...could it have been a take out order? Delivery? As a server myself off and on for over 20 years, I was initially perturbed and disappointed in such a shitty tip. But the fact that he just said "you should be happy" instead of defending himself by saying it was poor service just led me to wonder if we're being hosed by the 'server'. Especially since they're a Saints fan and couldn't wait to post it on social media.

On the flip side, assuming it was just a shitty tip, its 2018 and saying he may have not been taught to tip is BS, IMO. Unless you've never eaten in a restaurant before you know to tip. If you read FB or Twitter, you've most likely seen multiple posts about tipping and a server's wage. Hell, most restaurants put the tip amount by percentage on the dang receipts now. And the smiley face and smart ass response does not bolster the argument that he just didn't know better.

I do because I've heard from drivers that they either get none of that fee or just a portion of it.

Besides, with gas prices today, that $2.50 delivery fee won't even cover their gas, wear and tear on vehicle, etc.

I don’t mind send backs “generally” especially if it was our fault kitchen staff or sever doesn’t matter we are here for the customer, but it was when I worked for places that allowed for substitutions where you get people coming up with weird sh*t “I don’t want the honey lemon sauce on my chicken I want the bordelaise Saucewell you know what, that’s going to taste like sh*t and f*ck up the whole dynamic of the rest of the dish, IMO if you don’t like our menu then dine elsewhere.

The other big irk was people sending back meat that they thought was under/over cooked, I loved working the grill station, whoever is on it is usually pretty experienced and well trained and can multi task like a mf’er, so send backs on the grill station were a real slap in the face, you couldn’t get the temp right if you had a thermometer stuck in it the whole time and you’re telling me my business, GTFO!!

Don’t be afraid to send food back in a legit place, wrong side, wrong sauce, something missing it’s all good nobody will f*ck with you, legit places they’re professionals, chain places from my very limited experience are a bunch of hacks & clowns just reheating sh*t anyway it’s just a job to them, So……

Missing poo I will usually expect. Chain restaurants are the worst for overcooking meat.

Typically at legit places I rarely experience major mistakes.

The delivery fee almost never goes to the driver. It goes to the business.

I don’t either. There’s three places near me for pizza and all are close enough that I can order, pick it up and be back while still hot and way before it’s delivered. I usually get there and then the pizza is done. I almost never do delivery. Heck with tip and charge, when it’s a small orde you’re doubling the price just to get it a half hour later.

2nd half of the game and you're to fu*cked up to drive, its worth whatever fees they're charging

Yes, you should, within reason. That delivery fee doesn't fully go to the driver. They make minimum wage, and a small per delivery fee (usually $1-1.50).

FWIW, I've worked as a server, delivery driver, and pizza place manager...my general rule of thumb on deliveries is 10% or $5, whichever is more. If they go the extra mile with stuff like cheese & peppers, napkins, plates, or if the weather is bad I will increase it accordingly. Nothing was more infuriating then delivering during a literal snow storm and being tipped $2.

cant

believe

this thread is still alive and kicking.

If you can’t afford to tip 15%-20% on dinner, then you can’t afford to go out to dinner. Stay at home and eat a hot pocket or PB&J. NO ONE cares about your philosphy on why “tipping is stupid” or whatever other moronic opinion you have to justify being an ass and cheapskate. This is how our society and cultural is with tipping and going out to dinner. Too bad for you, adhere to it or stay home.

I’m sure you are an excellent judge of service and dining etiquette and are trained in the culinary arts. If you think service was bad - ask to speak to a manager. Don’t smile and be fake and then stiff the person who probably had nothing to do with it and crawl out like a coward. The manager will probably take care of some of your bill and in that case u really need to hook up the server.

Yall that are bad tippers on here - you REALLY need to look in a mirror and do some digging on why you feel it it necessary to be an asswipe and cheap. There is nobetter way to tell a low class, ignorant dipshit than to watch how a person behaves when they are out to dinner at a public setting.

    • If there's another QB that came to the combine after packing on 15 lbs of water weight to hide his playing weight, I don't remember it.  I understand it's all part of the pre-draft game, and he participated. The FO was stupid and ignored huge red flags.  On a side note though, I was at the airport a few weeks ago and saw a basketball team going through and decided to try and look through them. I'm 6'2 and these guys were 6'6 and up. I was amazed by how much I couldn't see around them. And these guys weren't 300 plus in pads. I still think he's having a hell of a time seeing the field at the NFL speed.
    • There is merit to the points you're making here. On the flip side one could argue it took us investing 150 million in the oline for him to have a breakout season. And he has still yet to hit 1k rushing yards in a season. As far as Brooks goes the position does not require that significant of a draft investment for many other teams. That's not being negative it's just a matter of fact. The 49ers did quite well with a UDFA running back while McCaffrey was out. It is understandable that some people have concerns. That being said it boils down to whether or not you believe in the player. We just have to see what happens with him and Brooks.
    • Okay, that day in Vegas had to embarrass him completely. Andy showed him how to do the job.  What I think when I go there, why did it take Andy? He has had game after game of watching actual NFL QBs work and that didn't do it?  Anyhow Andy did not mess around, he stood in there and did his job and got rid of the ball ahead of the pressure. Down the field. With the same players Bryce had. Night and day.  If that didn't wake him up nothing ever would. But I don't think he has any sort of top NFL QB in him, he just lacks the full tool kit.
