Yeah you’re also not going to call the person out on social media either, and you should understand before hand that’s one of the cons when being in customer service, just like waiting tables, one of the cons is garbage tipping. Shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who has waited tables for over 6 months to a year. So calling someone out on twitter or whatever is unprofessional and immature, and really looks like the person is looking for attention.

I agree it's probably not good for your long-term job outlook, but shitty tippers and people who yell at and berate customer service reps absolutely should be shamed on social media. The server probably isn't responsible for why you're upset, just like the service rep you're REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEing at had nothing to do with why you had to call them in the first place.  You just want a convenient target to focus your anger and frustration on, and don't feel that these people are worthy of being treated like decent human beings

"There are lots of angry people and shitty tippers out there, but instead of holding them accountable, we should instead insist it's the other person's fault for choosing to work in the service industry. Just like how we all know a lot of rapists are out there, so if you choose to go to a bar alone and get your drink roofied and you get raped, that's really your fault, please don't shame your rapist on social media for your own poor choices."

Who's to say some college kid is struggling to get by doesn't deserve a decent meal because he can't pay 20% more or whatever you think is respectable for a waiter or waitresses services.

Many of us in this forum (maybe even most) have been or currently are college students.

If you're struggling making ends meet as a college student and you think you "deserve" some fine dining experiences, get a more financially capable significant-other who can afford it.

What you "deserve" is what you can afford.  God only knows, ramen noodles ain't just a funny joke to say about the college experience, its fugging REALITY.  Along with generic mac-and-cheese from a box.  You ever had a margarine sandwich?  I have.

Hell, back in the day (WAY back in the day) when I was in college, the Burger King a block away from my apartment would occasionally have 10-regular-burgers-for-$5 sales and I would break loose 5 of my hard-earned dollars and eat like a "King" on burgers for about 3 days.  That was big-time for me and I think back on those days with fondness and an appreciation that I don't have to deal with that crap anymore.

You can't afford fine-dining (and YES that includes tipping)?  Then you don't "deserve" it.  But you really really are jonesing for some surf-and-turf?  Then pinch pennies in other areas and save up for it.

You're a college student and your struggling financially?  Then understand the parameters of the fight and don't expect other working people, like restaurant servers, to make up for your current shortfall.

Jeebus cristo... "deserve".

P.S. Also, looking back as a one-time college students, I know for a fact that some of these students who think they "deserve" others to make up for their shortfall have dropped a good bit of their money on alcohol.  Because, you know, they "deserve" to party too.  I've seen some pretty damn expensive looking tatts on some of these "starving" students these days too.  Its called PRIORITIES.  Sometimes you can afford that surf-and-turf, tomorrow night's party, AND some fine ink.  You would like all of those things but you don't have enough $$$?  That ain't the restaurant server's fault, broski.  Set your PRIORITIES and make some decisions.

This is my personal opinion, but I always try to tip a fair percentage based off service and then depending how long I stay I'll throw in something extra.

I overheard this waitress break down one time because she had been waiting on a table full of college age girls (probably a group of 15 or so) for 2.5 hours running food, drinks, etc. Anywho, they left her a $5 tip for 2.5 hours.

2.5 hours is at the very minimum two additional tables she could have waited, maybe even three. I felt so bad I threw her a $50.

In my opinion, not only are people not cognizant of tipping, but also how long they are staying. If Jackson spent two hours at the table and ordered $200 worth of food while only tipping $5 then he really is an ass. If you spend a poo ton of money but you are in and out, fine. However, when you stay a lengthy period of time keeping a waiter from getting their next table and still only tip $5... that makes you an ass.

Idk if that last part is directed at me in quotes but that’s a big flip of what I was original saying. I wish it was as simple as shaming them on social media but it’s not, they’re not the greatest of people but I’m pretty sure disclosing a recipe that and customer name on social media is far pass breaking company guidelines etc.

Something something golden rule?

You know damn well the people that are completely fine with this dude giving a laughable tip would absolutely lose their mind if they were the ones receiving said “tip.”

I wouldn’t amigo, not one bad apple will ruin the the batch of apples. I wont let one bad egg stop me from doing my job at an acceptable level due to this behavior. Granted I’d be pushed but just like qbs in the leauge I’d have a short memory and get back to the task at hand

I know you, you wouldn’t pull this stunt

I regularly leave 20% after taxes, and give more depending on the level of service. I spent nearly a decade in food & bev and know the struggle. Whatever my personal feelings on how servers are tipped might be, the reality is that they live off of tips and knowing that is enough for me to do what I can for them.

Went out to dinner today at a local restaurant and bar... had a sammich and a couple of beers (20 oz glasses).  The first beer I got, the glass had a chipped lip.  Wasn't a huge deal, I noticed it before it had any chance to cut my lip or anything, so I just made sure there wasn't any glass in the beer itself (there wasn't) and I rotated the glass 180.  I did, however, point it out to the bartender/server just so they knew they could trash the glass when I was done with it to make sure nobody in the future cut their mouth on it.  He said he was happy to replace the beer I had, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

When I got my check afterward, he only charged me for my sammich and one beer and not for the two beers that I actually had.

Dude got a 50% tip from me (I just rolled what I would have paid for the other beer into my tip because I appreciate good service and courtesy and respect for the customer).

100% this. Treat servers good. Don’t make problems their fault and they will treat you like gold.

I hope the caps make him take everyone out for a dinner and rack up a 20K tab, than watches him while he tips 20%.

A poor customer won’t stop me from doing my job. Likewise I wouldn’t post it on social media if a customer stiffed me.

However, when you’re eating out (especially when you have more than enough means) it’s standard to tip 20%. I’ve had some pretty ish service in my day and never have I not tipped someone at least 20%. You never know what someone is going through and what is intentional and what isn’t.

This guy seems like more of a Subway Five Dollar Foot-long connoisseur.

If you don't value fine dining then stay out of there. Whatever you do don't go there and be a cheap bastard if you are a Denny's type.

Lmao if you value fine dining then you should have an idea of what goes with what. Come off the high horse. You're on a football forum talking about how fancy you are lmao
