Jesus you people need to get a life. It was a bad tip. It's not like he killed a pedestrian or gave up a 25 point lead in the Super Bowl. I'm glad this is all the drama we have to worry about...some salty, probably shitty, Saints fan who puts people on blast on Twitter for bad tips, and not something really, truly bad.

Well, it leads to an obvious question:

Which I worse, a bad tipper or a Saints fan?

Either way, a TIP more or less means " I am at liberty to "tip" you whatever the hell I want"

Mofos go too far with this tipping mess. Stupid ass system anyway. Get rid of "tips" and pay them a regular hourly wage.

Cool... that means we'll be getting the same excellent service at ALL restaurant as we do your standard McDonalds and Burger Kings.

I-Don't-Give-A-poo-Don't-Bother-Me-Service is *awesome* when you're spending upwards of $100 on a meal.

Older, Southern, Rural folks tend to tip pretty poorly no matter the level of service...it's just "always been that way".

My Dad fits that description and he still actually believes in his heart that $1 is a good tip.  My God, its a WHOLE DOLLAR!  Why, he could go see 20 movies back in his day with a $1!

The Saints fan. He obviously did this for the viral possibilities of it. Looking at his Twitter profile, he's a douche, so I don't feel bad for him.

Nope, but I actually can't bring to mind anytime its been less than 3-star.

But I'm sure you'll be fine with the excellent service of those lower pay-scale hourly employees as the steak you ordered sits at the serving window from the kitchen and gets colder and colder and colder alongside that potato that's butter is hardening.

Moving from systems of capitalistic motivation to socialistic one-size-fits-all caring always improves every system where its ever been tried!

I’m not going to read through 12 pages of comments. To me it was a poor tip given he apparently showed appreciation at the service by shaking the waiter’s hands and had a friendly conversation, although that’s only one side of the story.

I’m also sad to see the waiter publically shaming him like this. That’s not what the tertiary industry is about, but sadly living in the UK I place a lot of this at the feet of US culture and wages. Don’t pay lower wages than other jobs but say “oh, but tips make up the rest of your pay” - fug off. This wouldn’t be an issue if you had a national minimum/living wage like over here, avoiding exploitation like this.

You have a lot of social issues in the USA which you shrug your shoulders to. Who cares about workforce exploitation?! I always think of the Reservoir Dogs scene.

sadly I also think about when I was chased out of a Chinese restaurant for not giving much of a tip, even though the service was poo, the steak had chipped bones in it, and all the courses came out pretty much at once. Don’t go demanding a tip you don’t deserve!

I tipped $5 on $50 bill but the waiter earned that, was too busy hitting on the bartender to bother being a waiter, it was an expensive restaurant too and had only ordered 2 drinks and a  appetizer.

never got one of my drinks and left to get dinner somewhere else.

Any time a person came in and I was sure they were a newbie, I'd get them my A game. You had one shot to prove (via your tip) you should command extra attention from then on out. If you tip me something below standard (and yes 10% is below standard lmao) you got below average service from me from then on out. Why would I hover over your table refilling your big gulp when the regular who tips 33% is across the restaurant? Answer: I wouldn't. I never got mad at anyone who was a shitty tipper, I just lowered my service to match their tips. If you're okay with shitty service if it means you don't have to tip much, that's okay with me. Just don't get fuging indignant about the level of service you get if you're not going to show appropriate appreciation when I do go out of my way to give you extra attention.

I dont percent tip tbh. I tip 1-5 dollars per guest based off the service. So if it's just 2 people no matter how much i spend the best they'll get is 10 bucks. % tipping is stupid. If I order a steak or a piece of toast the amount of work the server did is the same..so they shouldn't be punished or rewarded any extra for it.

I know you got alot of poo for this but it makes sense. Why should a waiter get paid such a significantly more amount of money because he works at a high end restaurant? I mean do you really think a 5k meal warrants a 1k tip vs someone doing the same amount of work at a cheaper establishment.

Typically they provide a higher level of service and knowledge. They are employed by high end restaurants because they are better servers.
