Even if the service sucks I still tip 20% min. Much more if they do well and are trying. You never know what someone is going through.

He’s probably never waited a table or on anyone in his life for that matter and if he did he’d have a different outlook on the situation.

I've not been in the service industry, but I still tend to tip 20% or better unless someone is exceptionally rude, careless or some such.

It takes a lot to make me angry in those situations.  My dad used to expect special treatment to tip.  I don't wanna be that way.  You've gotta be really bad before I'll take something off the tip, and by that I don't mean bad at your job, but a jerk.

If you feel like you're somehow entitled to get treated like a king, you're probably nothing special, and more like an immature a--hole.

My wife, who did work in the service industry some years back, will ask to speak to managers and leave notes on receipts to compliment good service. I don't really think that's because of her time on the job though.  I just think it's something she likes to do.

I hate bad tippers.  Can't stand them.  There are a lot of them.  They shouldn't go out to eat.

I do believe you can low tip for legit crappy service but I don't feel you can just leave a crap tip with nothing said.  If service is so bad I would want to leave a joke tip.....I'm gonna ask for a manager before I leave it and leave no doubt of why it had to be done.  No server is going to be left wondering "what happened" and why they got stiffed.

I also wouldn't low tip because someone was "new" and just was struggling.  I chalk those experiences up to the risk of going out.   You can tell who is tries and is lost, who is in the weeds and generally when the fault isn't even on the server for slow server.   You can also tell when someone just doesn't care about servicing a table properly.

Regardless if the waiter did a great job and was 100% stiffed by Jackson and had a legit beef to call him out, I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get fired. Just the way it works. Bad pub for the establishment.

Oh, he should be fired.

You don't put someone on blast because of this. Not only is it borderline stalkerish/creepy, but you're definitely not giving your employer a good look.

IMHO it is comparable to a HIPAA violation.

If someone is a bad tipper, so be it. Get over it and move along. You have no right put someone's personal social inadequacies or whatever you want to term it as on blast.

Huddle and tip threads go hand in hand over the years, much like uniform threads. I've made it known that I try to tip at least 15% even if a server is terrible. I tip especially well if you do a great job. But I always tip, even if it is more than I feel like I should sometimes.

If you're tipping bad because you got bad service, you aren't doing anything to be a part of the solution. You're basically stacking negativity upon negativity. That just digs the hole deeper.

I've never had a problem with poor service at the places I'm a "regular" at. Mainly because I always tip AT LEAST 25-33% depending on how much I spent (higher percentages for smaller tabs.)

Unless your server LITERALLY punches you in the face and curses you out, they deserve at least 20%. Long wait times and most everything else isn't their fault. I'm always amazed at all the dumb fugs who come to the same place regularly and always tip like 10% and bitch about their glasses being empty and their food taking long. Yeah, your server is busy making sure my glass is always full and making sure my food comes out ASAP,  even if I was seated after you were. I'll also probably get a free appetizer thrown my way, especially if they had something that was sent back untouched because of a mix up.

Take care of your servers and they'll take care of you. Or don't and whine like an idiot about problems that good tipping would fix.

I have a general rule(always unspoken) that any freebies(drinks, food, etc) in a restaurant that I receive, I just add the equivalent value to their tip column.

If the menu says the steak is $20....it's $24.  Salad is 10...it's 12.  Beer is 3...it's 3.60.

If you can't afford 20% more than stated menu price, you can't afford to be at that restaurant.  Either knock something off the wish list, or go home.

The only thing that I don't feel you need to tip 20% on is high priced wine.  Say $100 per bottle or more.

I love how so many rollers here saying they ALL tip 20%^ as if that is a normal or baseline. LOL..anyone that has ever waited tables know even 10% is generous for most tops. 20%? lol

Either way, a TIP more or less means " I am at liberty to "tip" you whatever the hell I want" Mofos go too far with this tipping mess. Stupid ass system anyway. Get rid of "tips" and pay them a regular hourly wage. But damn ohh wait...all those hot college girls that make HUGE tips from horny dudes hoping to bang wont be able to pay their tuition? Yall know you leave FAr more generous tips for the hot waitress, and dont give a damn about "service"...lol

Lame. I worked in a bar/restaurant through college; unfortunately,  he is not helping the stereotype regarding African Americans and tipping.

Don’t believe me? Ask someone who has worked in the service industry.

Well I work in the service industry as a bartender at a high volume club and that’s just a dumb stereotype to have. I get crappy tips from young white kids and 100% plus tips from black guys and vice versa on the regular. You continuing to bring up this crap of a stereotype only helps perpetuate it. Fail of a post.

Judging from the server's way of publicly airing their dirty laundry, I tend to side with Jackson

I believe Jackson should have tipped better. And I don't have a problem with the server calling him out. You don't have a constitutional right to not be called out for being an a--hole if you act like one.

That said, a lot of employers see anything that you post on social media relating to your work as representing them. In such cases, they're not big fans of being made to look bad. That's a good way to get yourself fired.

And yeah, the server comes off as kind of a douche here. Not a good look if you want people to sympathize and take your side.

I can legitimately say I don't tip based on attractiveness. One of the biggest reasons I hate places like Hooters(other than the complete poo food), Twin Peaks, Tilted Kilt, etc is that I always feel like more servers than not at those places feel like being hot automatically makes not being good at your job acceptable.

If I want to ogle scantily clad women, I know where strip clubs are.

20% is standard in this country.  25% or more is not unheard of, and is more typical than you might imagine.

You are 100% wrong on this, and you are punishing the sever..not the restaurant owners, managers, or the people who make the "rules" for this system.

It all works, if everyone does what they are supposed to do.  Want bad service?  Pay servers $8 per hour and see what you get.  It won't be a clean cut, well dressed, attentive server...it will be a long ways from that I guarantee you.

I don't know you at all, but I would gather that you are much older than many on this board, and don't eat at nice restaurants often if this is your line of thinking.

    • Morgan still has a little John Fox in him. Got to value those RBs even though they have been devalued for around a decade now. Never go more than 2-3 years on a contract unless he is a superstar, never pay high money and never draft a RB high unless you are set everywhere else. We failed on the first and third rules.
    • This is some good solid logic. I still go back to the teams think tank and it includes the current Dan Morgan, each looked over the roster of holes and came to a clear conclusion that the RB needed improving. They could have gave the same 2022 Miles contract to Hubbard, but didn't. Next up Morgan trades up for a RB with sanders and Hubbard here in his last year. While the edge group is lead bye Charles "panthers are the only team that wanted me " harris Hubbard keeps grinding and improves along with the OL, *now* months after seeing brooks on the field and watching hub get like 5.1 ypc...the brain trust goes and gives him a updated miles contract.........Just a odd timeline of events, I believe all of us can agree on that. Just the market is at the lowest its ever been for RBs and this team is 2-7 with other losing seasons with hubbard chugging along as a cheap rookie. I do agree with you sorta need 2 starting level RBs, so use a mid-rounder or sign one in FA for 2-4 per. Hubbard signed for more than King Henry, sure age and all. Id still want Henry for 8per over 2 years than hubbard 8.3 over 2(his cut point) Honestly part of is still pissed form the Herniay era and spending top draft picks and top level cap space on RBs. I love the guy but they even signed toldozer for upper money with stew and dwill, just poor management of resources. Now 20 years later, history repeats while the league is laughing at the Panthers. I want to over spend and over use draft capital on WRs, edge, and DL. At they rotate and play at the same time, panthers never used stew and dwill at the same time while both were top 5 paid. ugh
