Nah it's just bad writing. Jaime should have been the one to take down TNK and Arya should have killed Cersei using the face of one of Tyrion/Jaime. This show peaked in Season 6. Still fun to watch but a shame to see the story butchered. I'll have to get around to reading the books.

That would be to predictable and bad writing.  Jaime killing cersei would be the perfect end, given the first season revolved around their love.  And Arya killing the NK with the dagger that was suppose to kill Brand is appropriate.  Where all the soldiers failed, the assassin succeeds.

So curious if there is a way the NK could come back?  Brandon hinted that this isnt the first time that the NK and Third eye raven has faught.

I mean, technically the Night King was created to help fight man.  I guess there is always the element in play that Bran or someone could create one (Jon) to finish off Cersei and company.   Which puts Dany on the throne I guess.   And the whole thing starts again.

Man, what an epic night.  Now, I did go and see Endgame before watching this so I might have a bit of emotional overlap looking at this episode.

What an epic night.  Though I hated how dark it was.  I get the choice for making it impossible to see most of the show, but there should have been places to light up scenes momentarily, then have it fade back into the darkness.  There were attempts to do so, but most weren't enough for my liking.

I am disappointed that the Winterfell crypts weren't cooler.  There was much made with the crypts, and not much really happened in there besides a sweet moment with Sansa and Tyrion.

I love that it was Arya.  Just a great character arc.  Though I don't see her being the one to end Cersi.  I do see her taking down the mountain though to save Gregor.  I think it will have to be Jamie, making the choice to betray his sister from behind with a dagger in front of everyone.  Or maybe with his gold hand?  Got to wonder what Bronn will do?

Still a lot to get done, and I can't wait to see what happens.

SOOOO...

I think my biggest disappointment is in knowing there are only three episodes left, and the "big bad" is no longer a factor (at least, to our knowledge.)

I can understand the "let down" sentiment, and I can empathize with that to an extent.

The last leaks I posted were obviously fake, so I think going into the show somewhat expecting some legitimacy there might have set me up into not being able to process everything that really happened in real time, if that makes any sense.

Overall, I think this was one of the best shows in the show's history. It did pay off for me.

The good:

Theon's closure. When Bran told him he was home, thanked him, and he charged head on into certain death, it was somewhat of a tear jerker for me. It was the ultimate redemption and sacrifice. I was actually hoping Melisandre would bring him back, but oh well on that front.

Arya's scenes. Maisie Williams did an excellent job with everything. From "stick 'em with the pointy end" to that final, war ending blow, she was great.

Melisandre trying to help save the day. I was surprised to see her just stroll up like she did.

Lyanna Mormont going out like a boss. Giant slayer.

The dance of the dragons. I was glad we got to see some aerial combat. Yes, it was dark and cloudy, but it was great CGI.

The buildup. The first 15 minutes or so was pretty tense.

The battle. It was pretty epic to me. I know some are let down, but I mean you get the shots of the burning arakhs riding into the darkness and slowly being extinguished. AOTD emerging out of the darkness and the full on chaos of battle. All the way down to Viserion almost toasting Jon a few times (I was wondering if they were gonna make him immune to fire as well, even though we saw him burn his hand at the wall.)

The horror aspect itself. They did a really good job with the interior shots with Beric, the Hound, and Arya.

The "bad," aka things that were still good but that I didn't like so much:

Plot armor. Everyone thought a lot more people were gonna die. Instead we lost Theon, Lyanna, Edd, Beric, that random Khal nobody cares about, Mel, The Night King, and Jorah. Missandei or Grey Worm should have bit it. I think Pod should have bit it, too. Sam came close a few times, but I was hoping he'd survive.

The darkness. It was good and bad for me. It added an element of realism, I suppose, but it makes it hard to tell what is happening. I thought for sure Arya accidentally stabbed Beric when they first ran into each other, and I'm not 100% sure still that it didn't happen.

The Hound, Jaime, Brienne, the White Walkers, and Jon I felt like all should have had some more badass battle moments. Arya got those scenes, as did the dragons.

Bran. He's kind of pointless now, I guess. I suppose he and Sam are going to get the Book of Eli treatment at the end in which they correct/transcribe the history of the world.

Rhaegal. I'm not sure if he died or not when he threw Jon. I know we saw Drogon come back for Dany, but I'm not sure about Jon's dragon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm definitely going to rewatch it several times. It was definitely epic. Only three more episodes to go. I don't think Cersei is ready for what is coming for her.

Final episode predictions:

Cleganebowl

Wildfire 2.0

Formation of some type of council with several kings/queens, and the retirement of the Iron Throne.

Cersei dead. Hopefully at the hands of Jaime or Arya.

Yara returns with her fleet and kills Euron, I hope.

I doubt we get anymore WW's or a new Night King, as I think them, the Giants, and the Children of the Forest are all legit gone now.

Arya swooping in for the kill was awesome. She is Death (as in the God). That is amazing. I'm glad they didn't take the cheap, wear a face and sneak up approach. She just came from out of nowhere, from above or behind the NK's forces. The gust of wind and she's there. fuging fascinating.

I didn't catch it at first, but after watching the NK kill scene several times I think it's pretty clear Arya was disguised as one of NK's homies. Just as NK is going to grab his sword it cuts to a WW who turns their head who I believe is Arya, then it cuts to the Arya coming out of nowhere scene. I think after the Red Woman mentioned the "kill lots of blue eyes" line, Arya went into her disguised assassin mode.

Overall I liked the episode but I think it could have easily been edited down at least twenty minutes. At one point it's like, "OK, we get it, there are a poo ton of white walkers and the good guys are screwed." I read about how challenging shooting this episode was, and maybe the producers figured they need to make it extra long since they put the cast and crew through such hell.

Towards the end I thought the credits were about to roll at least three times, leaving us with a cliffhanger, but I thought it was cool how they actually included the payoff this week.

I hope that isn't the end of the White Walkers for good. I was hoping for some interaction with Bran and the Night King, maybe a convo to explain some of the Night King's backstory. Maybe that will come later, who knows. Maybe HBO and the writers know that will be a big part of the GOT prequel they are cooking up.

Did we get a definitive on the fate of Benjen Stark?  Did we actually witness him biting it or was it a shot of him riding into a throng of wights?

If it's the latter, then there's the opening of him being the new NK over the next 1000 years.

I don't think that is the case. I think it showed that WW to show the wind coming from being them, that wind being the real God of Death (Arya.) I could be wrong, but I didn't read it as her wearing any face.

The only time I thought Arya might have been wearing a face was when Mel showed up and stared at her across the way. I thought maybe it wasn't Arya all along, and was instead a FM wearing her face, and that Mel saw through it. Turns out that was wrong, too.

That's definitely possible too. I would question how Arya could sneak up on the NK and his generals, but then again in the premiere there was that scene where Arya sneaks up on Jon by the tree and he's like "how the fug did you do that?". Seems like the producers anticipated that question being asked and answered it accordingly.

they spent the whole episode dick teasing deaths of main characters only to have Jorah, Theon, and Beric be the only ones that paid the god of death.

There will be more. Guess they just didn't want to go with the quick kills and wanting to build up to the main  characters.
